Puravankara Bangalore's hopes rest on Om Prakash Chouhan

Puravankara Bangalore's hopes rest on Om Prakash Chouhan
Silverglades Delhi heaved a sigh of relief when play was called off midway in the final of the Louis Philippe Cup, India's premier pro team golf tournament here on Saturday. Untimely rain made conditions at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort unplayable and Team Silvergrlades Delhi, who were trailing in the finals, now have time on their hands to implement a winning strategy to get back in the game.

All the players struggled to hit the fairways as incessant wind and rain made life difficult on the course. The number of bogeys strongly outnumbered the few birdies scored in the session before the torrential rain hit the greens. Play was then stopped at 12.40 PM as Tournament Director, Sampath Chari, called off the play for the day. All matches will resume on Sunday from the current position.

At the time of playing been called off, DLF Gurgaon and Silverglades Delhi were engaged in a keen tussle with all players shooting above par scores. Jyoti Randhawa, star player of the DLF Gurgaon team opined, "Both me and my team were playing really well and we were confident of scoring the victory today itself, if not for the heavy rain. We'll definitely be looking to wrap it up tomorrow and bring the trophy to Gurgaon fans."

Starting the proceedings for Puravankara Bangalore against Shubhkamna Noida in the playoffs for the fifth position, Manav Jaini battled against veteran Jeev Milkha Singh, but was trailing the senior pro by five strokes on the 17th hole when play was called off. Puravankara Bangalore's Anirban Lahiri won his match against Ashok Kumar of Shubhkamna Noida by three strokes giving Puravankara Bangalore a one match lead at the end of playy. In the final tie of the encounter Omprakash Chouhan is trailing Shubhkamna Noida's Abhijit Singh Chadha by 1 stroke on the 15th hole. Puravankara Bangalore's fortunes lie in the hands of Omprakash Chouhan as completing the match between Manav Jaini and Jeev Milkha Singh is a mere formality now as Jeev holds an unassailable five stroke lead with one hole to go.

With the title clash of DLF Gurgaon and Silverglades Delhi poised at an interesting juncture, Sunday promises more exciting action for all the golf fans and Himmat Rai of Silverglades Delhi who is sure of a great match ahead, said  "Over my professional career, I have learnt that it's not over till the last putt and we're doing all that we can to turn the tables tomorrow in our favour.", said the 2011 Singapore Classic champion.
