Power Plant Piping Unit of BHEL at Thirumayam in Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has set up a Power Plant Piping Unit at Thirumayam in Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu, which was dedicated to the Nation by the Prime Minister on 02.08.2013. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Shri Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, said that the Unit has been established mainly to cater to the requirement of piping for power plants and process industries at a sanctioned cost of about Rs. 300 crore, and with capacity / capability to deliver 80,000 metric tonne per annum. Besides, other benefits also accrue such as direct and indirect employment avenues including from support industries/ services for around 3,000 persons, and general improvement in the vicinity of the Unit and adjoining areas.

The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh dedicated BHEL's new plants to the Nation at Thirumayan in Tamilnadu. The company's Power Plant Piping Unit, Thirumayam and High Pressure Boiler Plant - Unit II, Tiruchirappally, were dedicated to the nation by the PM, in the presence of Dr. K. Rosaiah, Governor of Tamilnadu; Sh. P. Chidambaram, Union Minister for Finance and Sh. Praful Patel, Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises. Dr. S. Behuria, Secretary, DHI; Sh. B. Prasada Rao, CMD, BHEL and Directors on the Board of BHEL, were also present on the occasion, besides other dignitaries.
