Turnaround Award 2013 for 4 Public Sector Enterprises
BRPSE (Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises) ‘Turnaround Award 2013’ were presented here today to Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). Dr. Nitish Sengupta, Chairman, BRPSE, gave away the award to the following 4 CPSEs :

(i)    Bharat Coking Coal Ltd;

(ii)    National Film Development Corporation Ltd.,

(iii)    National Project Construction Corporation Ltd., and

(iv)    SAIL Refractory Unit (Formerly Bharat Refractories Ltd).

These erstwhile sick/ loss making CPSEs have made profits consecutively for 3 Financial Years—2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13; and their net worth has become positive after receiving financial assistance from Government on the recommendation of BRPSE. On the occasion a booklet titled ‘On the Wings of Transformation’ was also released by Dr. Sengupta. The booklet contains the success stories of these 4 CPSEs.

Till date BRPSE has considered 68 cases and recommended revival of 58 CPSEs and closure of 6 CPSEs envisaging total assistance of Rs. 39,200 crore. The Government of India has approved revival of 44 CPSEs and closure of 3 CPSEs envisaging total assistance of Rs.28,354 crore - benefitting 2.16 lakh employees. Besides this, concerned holding companies are implementing revival of 3 subsidiary companies on the recommendation of BRPSE . Total assistance granted by holding companies is Rs 6,923 crore.

Dr. Nitish Sengupta stated that more emphasis has been given to the empowerment and enablement rather than on mere cash infusion. He assured that BRPSE will recommend all necessary assistance to the sick CPSEs in their endeavour to turnaround. He hoped that more and more sick CPSEs will turn around and join the family of turnaround CPSEs in 2014.

Shri Atul Chaturvedi, Chairman, PESB and Shri O. P. Rawat, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, also addressed the Award ceremony.
