Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman – Medical Advisory Board and Medical Director, having spearheaded the clinical services in various capacities at Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd-India’s 3rd largest healthcare group for more than two decades, has been felicitated with the coveted National board of examination (NBE) award.
The “Teacher of Excellence” award has been presented to Dr. Ballal on the basis of his pioneering work done in the field of educating Post Graduate medical students. Dr. Ballal, is credited with initiating a successful Post Graduate teaching programme in Nephrology inside or outside Medical colleges for the first time in Karnataka since 1999. The Manipal Institute of Nephrology and Urology of Manipal Hospital under his guidance has been producing high quality nephrologists since the past 15 years. Many of his students have topped the exams and are successful Nephrologists across the country.
In a career spanning over three decades Dr. Ballal has held several important portfolios that has established this feat. He has been the Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Manipal University, a Clinical Professor of Medicine at St. Louis University Medical Centre, Chairman of the Board at Stempeutics Research Pvt. Ltd., teacher/examiner in DNB Nephrology and examiner for the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), London. He is on the Senate of Manipal University and was a member of the Senate of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences
Dr. Ballal’s achievements have been honoured with several accolades such as the ‘Aryabhata International Award’ and ‘Sagar Award’ for his excellent service and contribution in the field of medicine. He has also been awarded the ‘Trinity Vaidya Rathna Award’ for the service to mankind, ‘Dr. B.C. Roy Award 2012’of the Karnataka Government & ‘Rajyostava Awards 2005’ conferred by the Govt. of Karnataka and ‘Namma Bengaluru Awards’ to name a few. He has had the rare distinction of being been conferred The Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians London even without a British training .He also one of the few doctors who are Triple Board certified in Medicine, Nephrology and Critical Care from the USA.
