The new AMR hub in Kolkata developed in collaboration with the USA aims to identify antibiotics that work best against fighting diseases and frame a policy for use of antibiotic medicine in the country.It will carry out basic research and have a repository of viral strains that are being collected from all over the country. The repository has started receiving strains which will be characterized and used to identify if they have resistance to antibiotics.

US ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster, who was present at the AMR inauguration in Kolkata pointed out that antibiotic resistance is rising in India, which makes India an important partner in the fight against this menace.
