NAVTEQ Network for Developers™ Introduces Developer Day Events to India

NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, is holding NAVTEQ Developer Day events in Bengaluru (Bangalore), April 26, and Delhi, April 29. The events aim to introduce local developers to the global opportunities for location-based applications and solutions. The India Developer Day program will demonstrates how NAVTEQ® map data and content can help developers differentiate their applications, while detailing how NAVTEQ assists developers every step of the way, from building their apps to business development and marketing. The technical portion of the day will focus on the APIs and SDKs that enable both mainstream location-based apps and services and next-generation technologies for location-based 3D apps and games.

The day is sponsored by NAVTEQ Network for Developers™ (NN4D), a developer relations program focused on providing developers of location-based applications free business development, marketing and technical support. NN4D introduces developers to NAVTEQ’s extensive network of commercial buyers, co-markets their businesses and provides training opportunities and easy access to effective mobile advertising.

Marc Naddell, vice president, Partner & Developer Programs, NAVTEQ, shared, “Location-aware applications are already one of the most popular and profitable categories of downloads, and demand is increasing. Developers need technical, business development and marketing support to bring their applications to market more quickly, with the advanced and personalized features that will drive wide adoption. In particular, there is tremendous opportunity in India for both the enterprise and consumer markets. The NAVTEQ Network for Developers is committed to the India market and aims to provide increasing stimulus to the growth of the developer community.”

As part of the event program, NN4D members will showcase their success stories, sharing how they worked with NAVTEQ and used NAVTEQ map and location data to differentiate their location solutions, while also being introduced to commercial buyers of applications who might ideally launch their applications. Additionally, NN4D will demonstrate their recently launched NAVTEQ® App Warehouse, an online matchmaking service for app developers and commercial buyers of applications, backed by NN4D’s unparalleled free business development support. To introduce the developer community to the portal, an incentive program has been launched by NN4D to motivate developers to submit their apps to the App Warehouse. The first incentives in the program will be cash giveaways of $5,000 USD for developers who publish their apps in the App Warehouse.

NAVTEQ, and its developer relations program, NN4D, play an active role in India. Globally, India has the second-largest developer community outside of the United States, with one million developers. It is also one of the fastest-growing communities, in part due to the unmet domestic demand for applications and services, and in part because of the role India plays in the global outsourced development market. This makes India a key region for NN4D.
Recognizing India’s enormous potential and importance in the global economy, NAVTEQ long anticipated the need for a significant Indian operation to create the map data Indian customers would demand. This includes both accurate, up-to-date road mapping, and the additional information – such as the type of road surface, whether there is a speed limit or height restriction, where the pedestrian paths are, and much more – that makes location-based applications valuable, sticky and ubiquitous.

Today, the NAVTEQ map of India provides coverage to 100% of the population with over 20% of that coverage at its highest coverage level – Prime coverage. This quality standard means all road types including residential roads are included and the over 200 attributes of all the roads in the map database have been verified. In addition to the NAVTEQ map, India enjoys several NAVTEQ map associated products including 3D visual content to improve guidance and orientation and rich points of interest that provide reviews about the location
