Indian Volvo Tipper driver wins Volvo Asia Fuelwatch Competition in Sweden

Volvo Fuel watch Competition is a fuel-efficiency competition for Volvo Tipper drivers held in Asian countries. The Indian Fuelwatch finals were held at a mining site in Dhanbad, the coal capital of India in October, 2010. The winner and the two runner-up drivers from India finals were qualified for the Volvo Asia Fuelwatch Competition along with drivers from Indonesia.


The Volvo Asia Fuelwatch Competition was conducted in a stone quarry near Gothenburg, Sweden on 14th April, 2011. The competition is the ultimate test for Volvo drivers to achieve highest fuel-efficiency in the real life driving conditions for the off-road applications.

The competition is organized by Volvo Trucks to bring out the importance of the skills of a driver that plays a critical role in driving high performance Volvo Tippers to achieve higher efficiency and productivity, which results in better profitability for fleet operators and eventually creates a huge positive impact on the environment with reduced emissions.

Mr. Gosula Venkata Suresh, the Indian driver from KPCL, Andhra Pradesh, achieved the highest fuel-efficiency at the Volvo Asia Fuelwatch competition and was adjudged the winner.

Mr. Lars MÃ¥rtensson, Environment Director, Volvo Trucks Corporation presented the winner’s trophy.

There was a special dinner organized for all drivers and Volvo officials from India, China and Indonesia to celebrate the event.

'Be a Fan of Dignity 2010' : Bangalore stars come together to pledge their support

The stars of Bangalore from the fashion and film industry gathered together for a worthy cause today in the city. Bangalore based fashion designer Ramesh Dembla & Special Olympic Bharat along with the stars pledged their support to the cause today. Ramesh Dembla, Sugandha Sukrutaraj, Director of Special Olympic Bharat & Syed Ali Kazam , National Director of Special Olympic Bharat urged the media to join the cause and stop the use of r-word(Retard) and its equivalent in any Indian language while addressing intellectually disabled persons. The campaign has already crossed over 9 million signatures and the numbers are still increasing ! With the added support today it chalked up the numbers to cross the 9 million mark. Rishika Singh, Shirin, Meghana, Santosh & Apoorva along with Ramesh signed the pledge for the cause. Other Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar also sent a video message to inspire the audience to join the cause and pledged their support to the same.




Bangalore's top models – Pashmina Barker and Jackie Shetty also previewed two garments from Ramesh Dembla's collection titled 'Nishtha' (meaning Dignity), which will be showcased at the grand finale event 'Be a Fan of Dignity' on 30th October 2010.


The finale event is a culmination of the nationwide signature campaign where Akshay Kumar , the Brand Ambassador for Special Olympics Bharat will not only be walking the ramp but will also encourage the audience to take the pledge and join the cause. The 'Nishtha' collection has been inspired by the cause and the theme of the evening, in three colours -Red which signifies Bravery, Black for determination and Gold for Pride.
