#India wants child sex offender Raymond Varley's immediate extradition from #UK

Indian government has filed an appeal in England for extradition of Raymond Varley, who is facing charges of sexual offences against children in India committed between 1989 and 1991.
The issue figured during the meeting Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj with the visiting UK Secretary of State Mr. William Hague. Sushma Swaraj did point out the details, that he is required in Goa; and that India is very keen on his extradition.

A District Judge in England, admitting Varley’s plea that he was suffering from dementia and refused to grant the Indian government’s request for his extradition.

Raymond Varley, 66, a teacher from Halifax, is accused of making repeated trips to Goa during the 1980s and early 1990s to abuse children by paying the head of an orphanage where more than 150 boys and girls were sadistically abused and tortured. He was arrested on the basis of a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol, after a Goa court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. However, he was arrested in Thailand, and for reasons still unknown, sent to England, and not India.

Amnesty UK Director assaulted by Chinese officials

“When governments like the UK fail to speak out publicly, it fuels a sense that China can get away with murder.” - Kate Allen

Chinese officials aggressively pushed Amnesty UK’s Director Kate Allen and Wang Ti-Anna, the daughter of an imprisoned Chinese dissident named for the 1989 Tiananmen protest movement, off the steps of the Chinese embassy in London this morning as they attempted to lay a bouquet of red roses on the steps to mark the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen crackdown.

Amnesty said that the UK government’s failure to speak out about the Tiananmen crackdown today has fuelled a sense of impunity for Chinese officials both in China and around the world. Commemorating the crackdown in China is illegal and people in China have been arrested in recent weeks while meeting to plan ways to mark the anniversary. Because the steps of the embassy are officially Chinese territory, the flower-laying was a direct act of defiance of that ban.

At the protest this morning, two officials burst out of the embassy doors behind Kate Allen and Wang Ti-Anna as they placed the flowers on the steps and pushed the two off the steps into the gathered crowd, throwing the flowers after them. A police officer then told the two officials to return to the embassy.  Kate Allen and Wang Ti-Anna were left visibly shaken by the attack and they were persuaded to file an allegation of common assault by the police who witnessed it.

Amnesty International UK Director Kate Allen, said:

“If this is the sort of brazen aggression that Chinese officials feel confident they can get away with in London, it is frightening to think what is happening in China.

“This was a peaceful attempt to commemorate the Tiananmen protests and remember all those who lost their lives in the bloody crackdown. The violence it was met with shows the true colours of the Chinese authorities.

“It is deeply disappointing that the UK government has apparently decided not to make a public statement on the 25th anniversary of Tiananmen. The silence is deafening, it’s as if they have been censored.

“When governments like the UK fail to speak out publicly, it fuels a sense that China can get away with murder.”

#India-#Pakistan fighting for a slice of #British mango export basket

Ban on European imports of India's Alphonso mango is drawing anger from British Indians. Britain, the former colonial power in India, has the EU's largest Indian diaspora community. British Indians number around 1.4 million out of a total population of some 60 million.
Citing pressure from disappointed constituents, British lawmaker Keith Vaz raised the ban issue in the House of Commons last week. Keith Vaz said British citizens consumed 12 million mangoes last year alone and predicted the ban, due to run to December 2015, could cost British businesses over £10 million ($16.8 million).

“The EU has treated an important trading ally, which represents a sixth of the population of the globe, with disrespect,” said Vaz, of the opposition Labour party, in a special debate. “The Brussels sprouts have decided to take on the mighty mango. I know whose side I am on.”
A petition to the British government urging a reversal of the ban on Alphonso mangoes, first grafted in Portugal's Indian colonies in the 1500s, has attracted over 2,300 signatures.
Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged to raise the issue with his new Indian counterpart, Shri Narendra Modi following his party's landslide win in the general election.
Some, including Vaz, also argue that the issue could have wider repercussions for trade relations with India at a crucial point.
Talks between India and the EU on free trade have been dragging on since 2007 and India has threatened to take the EU to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the ban, warning it could have “very negative fallout”.
The embargo came into force on May 1 after many shipments were found to contain fruit flies.
Meanwhile it is learnt that Pakistani mango growers are hoping to take advantage of the ban and export more mangoes to EU market. It is also learnt that mango farmers in Pakistan are encouraged to use new methods (like- hot water treatment of mango, insect sex-trap etc)for protecting mangoes from hazardous the insects.
According to respective official figures, Pakistan last year exported around 100,000 tonnes of mangoes for a revenue of $48.6 million over India's 56,000 tonnes for $44.6 million.

ManageEngine will release the new versions of EventLog Analyzer and Firewall Analyzer at Infosecurity Europe, being held April 29–May 1, 2014, at Earl’s Court, London.

“A typical large enterprise today generates 10 to 100 billion events every day that amount to several terabytes of security relevant data,” said Chenthil Kumaran, Development Manager, SIEM Solutions, ManageEngine. “Without an automated solution, making sense out of all those events in real time is impossible. That’s why we have built the correlation rules. Now, you can get notified on your mobile device when multiple users try to hack into your most valued server, when a single user tries to login to several servers at once, when a key file gets modified and a host of other scenarios. The software comes bundled with 50 such rules that can be customized further for your needs.”

With the general availability of EventLog Analyzer 9, ManageEngine delivers advanced SIEM functionality that facilitates effective IT security threat management with features such as:

Real-time alerting based on event correlation– EventLog Analyzer not only collects log data from thousands of servers, it also applies rules to secure the servers by correlating the log data in real time and helps notify you when it spots something suspicious. The product comes bundled with 50 correlation rules that cover user logins, file integrity, user creation, group policies, and unintended software installation. The real-time alerting feature works with Windows and Linux servers and select networking devices. Learn more at http://www.manageengine.com/products/eventlog/event-correlation.html.

User session tracking – If a hacker does make it to one of your machines, the user audit trail feature provides a complete audit of what the hacker did — from login to logout. This new feature gives a complete, stroke-by-stroke trail of everything the hacker did. The coverage includes any activity that leaves a trace in the log such as opening a browser, deleting a file or running a script. Learn more at http://www.manageengine.com/products/eventlog/user-session-monitoring.html.

ISO 27001:2013 compliance reporting– Out-of-the-box compliance reports help companies get certified with the latest ISO 27001:2013 ISMS standards. #Britain:No country for Women & Immigrants!!

UN special investigator Rashida Manjoo, who traveled across the UK during a 16-day fact-finding mission into violence against women, said she was barred at the gates of Yarl's Wood immigration detention centre on Monday, on instructions "from the highest levels of the Home Office".

She told reporters she was deeply concerned at her exclusion "because if there was nothing to hide, I should have been given access".

Manjoo had received reports of violations at the privately run Yarl's Wood centre, near Bedford, before her visit to the UK and wanted to verify allegations of abuse. Last month a Jamaican woman, Christine Case, 40, died at the centre, which holds about 400 women.

Manjoo's full report is expected to be published later this year and will be presented to the UN human rights council in June 2015.

End Violence Against Women (EVAW) Coalition co-director Liz McKean said: "The EVAW Coalition is very disappointed that Ms Manjoo's requests to visit Yarl's Wood detention centre were denied by the government.

About Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre:Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre is an immigration detention centre at Milton Ernest in the Borough of Bedford in Bedfordshire. It opened on 19 November 2001 and was built to hold up to 900 people making it the largest immigration detention centre in Europe at the time. Since opening in 2001 has been dogged by controversy. In February 2002, it was gutted through a fire, reopening in September 2003. Throughout its operational period a number of hunger strikes and riots have occurred there. On 11 January 2011, the High Court ruled that the continued detention of the children of failed asylum seekers at Yarl's Wood is unlawful.

Adi Sankaracharya's Sanskrit Shlokas on London Theatre Stage

Adi Sankaracharya's Sanskrit Shlokas on London Theatre Stage
Theatre of Devas and New End Theatre showcase the WORLD PREMIÈRE of two major plays by leading poet and playwright Gopi Warrier (an Alumnus of London Business School, Ècole des Haute Études Commerciàles and New York University Graduate School of Business) at the magnificent Steiner Theatre in London from April 1, 2014 to April 24, 2014.

Directed by Alex Crampton, the cast contains leading British actors and actresses including the beautiful Sarah Hall, classical actor Tim Heath, Sanjive Hayre (who has acted as Jawaharlal Nehru), Lloyd Morris, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Tim Hilborne and Paul Piggott amongst others. On selected days there will be discussions with writers, intellectuals, corporate leaders and spiritual teachers on the issues raised in the play.

The premiere was marked by a brief talk by Sir Andrew Likierman, the Dean of London Business School and a Director of the Bank of England and Barclays Bank during the interval. On the premiere night, Miss Charlotte Endacotte, a leading British actress who played the lead role in several British plays including  Shakespeare’s  "As You Like it"  and Michael Frayn's "Noises Off " introduced Sir Andrew Liekerman to the audience and also the cast and the director at the end of the show.

The two powerful plays, which deal with important contemporary themes, have been conceptualised by the legendary Gopi Warrier, whose exploration of Eastern and Western philosophies is an inspiration to many. Warrier evokes his unique presentation abilities to make people see through the shallowness of materialistic society and reach into our inner souls so tainted by the materialism of this world.

"Polyester Lordship" masterfully portrays the absence of corporate social responsibility to workers and consumers in the often corrupt world of international business. It debates International Business Corruption vs. Social Responsibility in the quest for peerage. “Ego of the Yogis” is a more regretful yet romantic evocation of the search for true love and of the contamination of yoga and spirituality in the Western world and in India, the original home of yoga. It is a timeless saga of an upper-class English woman’s quest for true love and spirituality in an utterly contaminated world.

For the first time, the great Sage Adi Shankara's famous Sanskrit Poem "Kanakadhara Stavam" which he recites in the house of a poor woman who gives him alms is sung on the Theatre stage in London's theatre stage in the play “Ego of the Yogis”. In the example of Adi Shankara is cited to show the detachment of great Indian Sages in comparison to the egotistical and materialistic pursuit of Yoga in the west. The writer very much wanted a singer from India to recite these and chose two leading classical singers from Kerala to sing this and some excerpts from the song of Vasavadatta as she waits impatiently for the monk.

Another important showpiece in the play “Ego of the Yogis” is that of how the latest Japanese research mathematically proves the illusory nature of the world as the Hindus always believed. The hologram of the illusory universe was designed for Warrier by Jon Bunker, the leading special effects director for Hollywood films who has worked on ‘Star Wars’ and with Tom Cruise and George Clooney. This is based on Hindu Yantras of the cosmos that are practically in every temple and on which the deities are placed. Creating the Kshetra - the force field of the temple. These Yantras are representative of the ‘maya’ - the illusory nature of the universe which Hindu philosophy has always espoused and has NOW BEEN MATHEMATICALLY and scientifically proven by the researchers at the Ibaraki University in Japan.

PLAY 1: “Ego of the Yogis”- Search for Spirituality in this Utterly Contaminated World
The play centres on an upper class English woman’s quest for true love and her search for a spiritual teacher. Disillusioned by her marriage she meets an Indian teacher briefly who tells her that all life is an illusion and only through yoga and meditation can one attain liberation from the cycles of birth and death. To find the teacher again she encounters a number of fake gurus and becomes more and more disenchanted with the contemporary world of spiritual seekers until her secret obsession is resolved unexpectedly.

PLAY 2: “Polyester Lordship” - International Business Corruption vs. Social Responsibility in the Quest for a Peerage
This play about the corrupt nature of many acquisitions and mergers, involving international businesses in most countries but particularly in Asia, takes the audience through the murky negotiations for the acquisition of an Indian textile factory. Aggressive executives from London deal with the shady underworld - but also honourable characters, both British and Indian, who demonstrate principled corporate responsibility to workers and the local community. An evolving relationship between two of the directors brings an element of love and compassion into the tense and very dangerous developments in the factory and the city of Mumbai as the deal progresses.
About Gopi Warrier: Gopi Warrier has lived in London for 34 years. He studied English Literature in India and then came to London Business School and completed an MBA in International Business from here and from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Paris and the New York University Graduate School of  Business. He comes from a well known and distinguished family of writers, physicians, diplomats and administrators including Chief Ministers to the erstwhile kings of Kerala. His grand father M. R. Krishna Warrier was a leading poet of Kerala and his father G. P. Warrier the Chairman of the Indian National Railways and Principal Secretary to the Government of India. Warrier has published three volumes of poetry including Varaha The Secret of Evolution and the Lament of JC and the art film produced and co-directed by him based on his poetry was nominated for the best spiritual film award at the Greatlakes film festival in the U.S and also chosen to be exhibited at Canadian, French and Hongkong film festivals. He has staged five plays in London including God Sports, The Tenth Incarnation, Genesis of Karma-Three Faces of Evil, Siddhivinayak Saves Mumbai from Terror Attack. Warrier also started McAlpine, Thorpe and Warrier, the management consultancy firm in London and also founded the Ayurvedic Company of the Great Britain as well as the Delhi London Poetry foundation to encourage young poets to write. Gopi Warrier has also authored several books on Ayurveda, India’s ancient medical system including: - The Complete Illustrated Guide to Ayurveda (with Deepika Gunwant); - Ayurveda, The Right Way to Live; and -  The Secrets of Ayurveda (with Dr. Harsh Varma and Karen Sullivan).

Reviewers on Gopi Warrier’s plays
"Beautiful, extraordinary, perfectly timed" – The Economic Times *****
“The play written by Gopi Warrier tackles the huge divide between Western values, ideas about medicine, spirituality and the lack of it in the West, racism, poetry, love and philosophy. Gopi Warrier manages to weave all this into wonderful poetry which makes you want to catch and linger on every word” - Linda Bilgorri on ‘Godsports’ at New End Theatre.

“Gopi Warrier’s genius is the synthesis of Eastern and Western Mythologies” - The Hindustan Times.

“Gopi Warrier lives in London and has lived in and travelled around the world. He has a facile pen for satire, eye for the shape of language and a sensitive ear for cadence” - Keki Daruwalla, leading Indian poet writing in the Hindustan Times

“Tenth Incarnation is a tale of love on an earthly level and the exploration of happiness, redemption and truth on an ethereal level. This is cerebral theatre at its best. Highly recommended.” - Dale Maitland Cartwright.
