#Bombardier opens its 3rd global Information Services (IS) hub in #Gurgaon India

Canadian multinational Bombardier Transportation has opened a new Information Services (IS) hub at Gurgaon, Delhi National Capital region (NCR). The new facility is now part of Bombardier Transportation’s expanding IS team, which supports the company in providing modern and effective workplaces and services to its employees.
As part of Bombardier Transportation’s global IS strategy, India will be the third hub after Canada and Germany, all working as one integrated team serving Bombardier Transportation locations across the world.

Commenting on the inauguration of new hub in India, Thomas Leidenbach, Vice President, Information Services Infrastructure, Bombardier Transportation said, “We are pleased to establish our IS presence in India which offers the required infrastructure and talent to support our development strategy, innovation and improve our services. This office will give us proximity to our IS supplier base, grow core competencies internally, and support our presence and growth in Asia”

He added, “India and Indian service providers are amongst the fastest growing in the global IS industry. With this hub, Bombardier is looking to leverage the available local expertise to bridge the gap between outsourcing and building internal competency.”

Bombardier’s new hub will create expert and managerial jobs mainly in the area of IS Applications and IS Infrastructure Management and the local India team will, as part of the globalised Bombardier Transportation IS department, support Bombardier workplaces to operate efficiently and support  customer requirements.

After more than five decades of investing in India, Bombardier Transportation employs around 1,600 people in India. It operates a railway vehicle manufacturing site and bogie assembly hall at Savli near Vadodara, Gujarat. This is in addition to a propulsion systems manufacturing facility at Maneja, a Rail Control Solutions centre and newly opened IS hub near Gurgaon, Delhi NCR and an engineering centre in Hyderabad that serves key projects worldwide.

Visit of Canadian Urban Infrastructure Trade mission to India

A Canadian 'Urban Infrastructure and Built Environment Trade mission' is currently visiting  New Delhi and Mumbai and will participate at “Municipalika 2014” to be held in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat from November 13-15, 2014.The Canadian infrastructure mission is Comprised of several leading Canadian companies.

Over the last two decades, India has witnessed urbanization on a massive scale. Its urban population has increased from 286 million in 2001 to 377 million in 2011. Such migration is expected to continue at unprecedented rates, with India’s urban population estimated to reach 590 million by 2030, contributing 70% to the country’s GDP.

To meet growing urbanisation needs, the Government of India is undertaking aggressive urbanization initiatives. Ontario is partnering with Honda to make the company’s Alliston, Ontario plant one of the most innovative in North America, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced today. The partnership reinforces Ontario’s position as a global leader in auto manufacturing, and will support 4,000 highly skilled jobs at the plant and thousands more in the supply chain.

Honda will invest about $857 million over three years in leading-edge technologies for vehicle assembly and engine manufacturing, as well as worker training and research and development partnerships with Ontario universities and colleges. This project will make Honda’s Alliston operations a teaching plant for all other Honda facilities worldwide.

Ontario will provide a conditional grant of up to $85.7 million for this transformational project. Provincial support helped Honda of Canada Mfg in Alliston win out over other Honda plants which were competing to be chosen for this project. The province’s investment will help enhance workers’ skills and secure the Alliston plant’s long-term future.

Tech Mahindra will establish its Aerospace head office in Greater Montréal #Canada

Tech Mahindra part of the USD 16.5 billion Mahindra Group today announced that it will be establishing its new Canadian Aerospace head office in Greater Montréal. This was made possible in part due to the support provided by Montreal International. The multinational company offering innovative and customer-centric Engineering and Information Technology services and solutions anticipates the creation of approximately 300 jobs over the next three years, mainly in the aerospace industry.

The announcement was made at the 2014 Farnborough Air Show, which was attended by Mr. Jacques Daoust, Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports, Hon. Denis Lebel Canadian Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Québec, Mr. Lakshmanan Chidambaram, Head - North America at Tech Mahindra, Daniel Desnoyers, associate Vice-President aerospace and defense for Canada and Ms. Dominique Anglade, President and CEO of Montréal International.

Three year jail sentence for conspiracy to bribe Fmr Indian Aviation Min & #AirIndia officials

Under Canada's Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act ("CFPOA") Justice Hackland of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice sentenced Nazim Karigar to three years in prison.

Karigar was found guilty of plotting to bribe senior Air India officials and a cabinet minister with payouts and stock options, and for conspiring with employees or associates of Ottawa-based security company CryptoMetrics, to win a multimillion-dollar, facial-recognition software contract for Air India.

In August 2013, following a lengthy trial, Karigar was convicted on a single count indictment of offering to bribe a foreign public official contrary to section 3 of the CFPOA. Karigar was found to have played a leading role in a conspiracy to bribe officials of Air India, a corporation owned and controlled by the Government of India, and the Indian Minister of Civil Aviation, for the purpose of securing a multi-million dollar Air India contract for a biometric security system on behalf of Ottawa-based Cryptometrics Canada Limited.

Canadian International School celebrates Environment Day

Students of Canadian International School (CIS) Bangalore hosted a series of activities to celebrate the World environment day at its campus today. The students made thought-provoking posters and slogans to raise awareness about the environment. This was a small but determined step in creating awareness towards saving the environment.

Students did lots of fun activities to learn about the special day carrying banners and placards with messages to save the environment. They collected and used a lot of recyclable and reusable material for all of their projects. They made earth craft from reusable paper and a banner with the insightful views and comments of our great thinkers. Students wore the Earth Masks they had made and wore green/blue T-shirts to represent land and water. They did their bit to spread awareness by saying “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level” which is also the theme of United Nation’s Environment Programme’s (UNEP) this year.

#US Green Building Council ranks #India at No 3, behind #Canada and #China

Today, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released its ranking of the top 10 countries for LEED® outside of the United States, demonstrating the global reach of the movement that is transforming the built environment into healthy, high-performing structures that benefit the planet and all of its people.

“The global community is increasingly recognizing the imperative for action as we combat the extraordinary challenge of worldwide climate change,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. “LEED’s success across a wide variety of cultures, climates and communities represents not only a growing recognition of its demonstrated benefits for human health and operational cost savings, but also its unparalleled potential to be part of the solution to a warming planet and rising sea levels.”

The list of the top 10 countries for LEED reflects the global adaptability of the world’s most widely used and recognized system guiding the design, construction, operations and maintenance of green buildings. To date, project teams in more than 140 countries and territories have implemented LEED in their building projects, taking advantage of its global, regional and local applicability to create structures that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions; create healthier indoor environments for workers, students and community members; and lower utility bills for building owners through reduced energy and water use.

The ranking of the top 10 countries for LEED outside of the U.S. is based on cumulative gross square meters (GSM) of space certified to LEED in each nation as of April 2014.

Canada tops the list, with 17.74 million GSM of LEED space. Collectively, Canada boasts 4,068 total LEED-registered and -certified projects, representing 58.66 million total GSM of LEED space.

China and India, two of the world’s fastest growing economies and rapid adopters of sustainable building practices, took second and third place on the list, respectively boasting 14.30 million and 11.64 million GSM of LEED-certified space.

Other Asian nations in the top 10 include South Korea, at No. 4 with 3.84 million GSM of LEED-certified space; Taiwan, at No. 5 with 2.98 million GSM; and Singapore, at No. 8 with 2.16 million GSM.

In Europe, Germany and Finland secured spots 6 and 10, respectively — Germany with 2.90 million GSM of LEED-certified space and Finland with 1.45 million.

In South America, Brazil stood at No. 7 on the list, with 2.85 million GSM, while the United Arab Emirates represented green building success in the Middle East, at No. 9 with 1.82 million GSM of LEED-certified space.

Ontario Canada helping cell therapy and biomedical manufacturing

Ontario, Canada is helping to advance the emerging sector of cell therapy and biomedical manufacturing to create jobs, attract top talent and promote economic growth.

The province is investing $4 million toward the McMaster-Fraunhofer Project Centre for Biomedical Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (BEAM) in Hamilton. The joint project centre is anticipated to create 70 to 100 jobs for highly qualified persons and attract top scientists and industry researchers from around the world to position Hamilton as an anchor city for Ontario’s life sciences sector.

McMaster University and Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology are the collaborative forces behind BEAM, which will develop innovative technologies to move cell therapies from manual to automated production, significantly lowering the cost to treat degenerative diseases, such as cancer.
