#SkillIndia initiative in aerospace sector by @Boeing, @TataCompanies, @NTTFindia



 Boeing, Tata Advanced Materials Limited (TAML) and Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) announced the launch of a skills development program to train front-line workers for the aerospace industry. The first batch of the three-year diploma program in Aerospace Manufacturing Technology (Advanced Composites) students wrere inducted at a ceremony in TAML’s Bengaluru facility today.“This program is aimed at providing trainees with quality technical education while earning a living. The National Employability Enhancement Mission program is for two years and we are adding another year to offer students a diploma certificate,” said N. Reguraj, Managing Director, NTTF.

#IIT Bombay and #Boeing to host aerospace innovation summit in Delhi on Oct.16th



Boeing and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) will jointly host “India’s Time to Fly,” a global summit on aerospace innovation to take place in New Delhi on Oct. 16.Boeing will also display a full-scale mock-up of an unmanned multi-mission, long-endurance aircraft that carries custom payloads for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. The system includes electromagnetic shielding to support customized communications relay and radio frequency sensor payloads to meet the mission needs.

#Boeing Delivers 5th P-8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft to India



Boeing has delivered the fifth maritime patrol aircraft to India, on schedule as part of a contract for eight aircraft to support the Indian Navy’s maritime patrol requirements.
The aircraft arrived at Naval Air Station Rajali, after a flight from Seattle’s Boeing Field, and joined the four previously delivered P-8Is.
“The P-8I programme is progressing on schedule, and the aircraft are providing the capabilities to meet our maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare requirements,” said Vice Admiral R.K. Pattanaik, India Deputy Chief of Naval Staff.

He added that the partnership between Boeing and India has been very professional to date.

“This is another important milestone for the programme, and we look forward to continuing our great relationship with India,” said Dennis Swanson, Boeing Defence, Space & Security (BDS) vice president in India.
“We’ll deliver one more P-8I before the end of the year, followed by two in 2015.”
Boeing is building India’s aircraft through a contract awarded in 2009. Based on the company’s Next-Generation 737 commercial airplane, the P-8I is the Indian Navy variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing builds for the U.S. Navy.
“We appreciate that senior representatives of the Indian Navy were with us in Seattle to participate in delivery activities and watch the plane take off for Rajali,” said Mark Jordan, Boeing P-8 International programme manager.
The P-8I incorporates not only India-unique design features, but also Indian-built sub-systems that are tailored to meet the country’s maritime patrol requirements. The P-8I features open system architecture, advanced sensor and display technologies and a worldwide base of suppliers, parts and support equipment.
 In order to efficiently design and build the P-8I and the P-8A, the Boeing-led team is using a first-in-industry, in-line production process that draws on the company’s Next-Generation 737 production system. P-8I aircraft are built by a Boeing-led industry team that includes CFM International, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Spirit AeroSystems, BAE Systems and GE Aviation.

Boeing, Air New Zealand Celebrate First 787-9 Dreamliner Delivery
Boeing celebrated the first 787-9 Dreamliner delivery today with launch customer Air New Zealand. About 1,000 Boeing employees representing the 787 program joined Air New Zealand executives and guests at a unique celebration of this milestone event.

"We are proud to be the launch customer for the 787-9," said Air New Zealand Chief Financial Officer Rob McDonald. "We believe it will be a game-changer for Air New Zealand, with increased levels of fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. We look forward to inviting our customers on board to experience the aircraft and all of its benefits for themselves."

Air New Zealand's Rolls-Royce powered 787-9 is part of the airline's fleet modernization effort. This 787-9, painted in a unique black livery, is the first of 10 Dreamliners to join Air New Zealand's fleet. The airline said the airplane will operate the Auckland–Perth route in October 2014 and to both Tokyo and Shanghai in November 2014.

"This delivery is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our employees, suppliers and Air New Zealand," said John Wojick, senior vice president of Global Sales and Marketing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Air New Zealand was a perfect partner for us in developing the 787-9, given its innovative spirit, unique mission requirements and geography. The 787-9, combined with Air New Zealand's exceptional onboard service, will set them apart from the competition by providing an unrivaled flying experience."

The 787-9 complements and extends the 787 family. With the fuselage stretched by 20 feet (6 meters) over the 787-8, the 787-9 will fly up to 40 more passengers an additional 450 nautical miles (830 km) with the same exceptional environmental performance — 20 percent less fuel use and 20 percent fewer emissions than similarly sized airplanes.

The 787-9 leverages the visionary design of the 787-8, offering passengers features such as large windows, large stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.

Twenty-six customers from around the world have ordered 409 787-9s, accounting for 40 percent of all 787 orders.

Boeing Forecasts Demand in India for 1,600 New Airplanes Worth $205 Billion

Boeing (NYSE: BA) projects demand for more than 1,600 new airplanes in India over the next 20 years, valued at $205 billion. The company briefed its 20-year market outlook for the country today at India Aviation 2014, forecasting India’s commercial aviation fleet will grow more than five times in size.
“India’s demographics are highly favorable to the growth of air transportation,” said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president of Sales, Asia Pacific and India, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The share of India’s large population entering the workforce is growing. India could have the world’s fourth-largest economy if current trends continue helping drive demand for air travel.”
Boeing projects that passenger airlines in India will rely primarily on single-aisle airplanes such as the Next-Generation 737 and the 737 MAX, a new-engine variant of the market-leading 737, to connect passengers. Single-aisle airplanes will represent 83 percent of the new airplanes in the country.
For long-haul traffic, Boeing forecasts twin-aisle airplanes such as the 747-8 Intercontinental, 777 and the 787 Dreamliner will account for 15 percent of new airplane deliveries. Boeing’s recently launched 787-10 and 777X also will support the demand for fuel-efficient twin-aisle airplanes in India.

“India will continue to have one of the strongest, most vibrant aviation markets in the world over the next two decades,” said Keskar. “While passenger growth is recovering and we project a healthy aviation industry in the long term, adverse near-term trends of overcapacity, a weak rupee and high fuel prices will affect airline profitability in the near term.”
Globally, Boeing projects a $4.8 trillion market for 35,280 airplanes over the next 20 years, driven by an increase in deliveries from India, China and other emerging markets.  That forecast represents the traffic growing at 5.0 percent annual rate over the next 20 years and the world fleet is expected to double by 2032.

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and SpiceJet announced today at India Aviation 2014 an order for 42 737 MAX 8s. The order, previously listed as unidentified on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website, is valued at $4.4 billion at list prices.

The Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, the mainstay of the fleet ever since SpiceJet started operations, have vindicated our choice by their endurance, reliability and cost effectiveness," said S.L. The 737 MAX brings the most advanced engine technologies to the world's best-selling airplane, building on the strengths of today's Next-Generation 737. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.
"The order is a tremendous endorsement of the 737 MAX's unsurpassed fuel efficiency," said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president of Asia Pacific and India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Development of the 737 MAX is on schedule with firm configuration of the airplane achieved in July 2013. First flight is scheduled in 2016 with deliveries to customers beginning in 2017. Already a market success, the 737 MAX has accumulated more than 1,800 orders to date and will have 8 percent lower per-seat operating costs than the future competition.
With today's announcement, SpiceJet has ordered 90 airplanes directly from Boeing, which includes the 737-800, 737-900ER and now the 737 MAX. To date, SpiceJet has taken delivery of 31 of the airplanes.

Boeing and India Partners Develop Wireless Technologies for Aerospace and Commercial Applications
Boeing [NYSE: BA] and its research partners Wipro Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd. and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) announced the successful development of wireless and network technologies that can be applied to future airplane development through their joint Aerospace Network Research Consortium (ANRC).
ANRC researchers developed wireless system antennas that can be etched onto an airplane’s interior panels and sensors that harvest energy from the airplane environment. These technologies have the potential to reduce wiring, batteries and weight, which would reduce fuel and power use. Other research led to the development of a wireless system called a “data mule,” which can collect messages from cell phones in rural Indian villages to transmit them to people in cities.
Prat Kumar, president of Boeing India, said research and technology development are the backbone of a complex industry like aviation and support the evolution of future technologies in other areas. “We are very pleased to collaborate with Indian partners on this truly innovative work through the ANRC, which demonstrates the mutual benefit of partnership between Boeing and India,” Kumar said.
 “Boeing’s collaboration with Indian companies and researchers to develop wireless technologies at ANRC will make our future airplanes more competitive and support new engineering capabilities in India,” said Mike Sinnett, vice president of product development, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Since ANRC’s founding in 2007, researchers from the four partners have produced more than 100 papers for international scientific journals on technologies to improve cellular, internet and entertainment systems on aircraft and in airports, among other projects. The findings may also be applied to the energy, healthcare and communications sectors.
“ANRC is India’s successful consortium of academia and industry to focus on industry-relevant fundamental research,” said Prof. H.S. Jamadagni of IISc’s Department of Electronic Systems Engineering and ANRC executive board member.
ANRC also laid the groundwork for extending projects to include other institutions by awarding grants to students at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) and M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MS RIT) to explore energy-harvesting and personal-identification technologies and applications.
“The ANRC is delivering on its mission to conduct world-class research on networking technologies for aerospace,” said Narayan Shenoy, General Manager, Product Engineering Services, Wipro Ltd. “We are excited to see the results of proof-of-concepts and are keen to scale-up the application of research findings across multiple industries.”
“By leveraging ANRC’s unique collaborative model and HCL’s  R&D experience in aerospace & defense with IPs in wireless networking and cognitive radio technology, HCL is contributing to the development of next generation aerospace systems and networks,” said GH Rao, President, Engineering and R&D Services, HCL Technologies. “We are very proud of our association with the consortium and will continue to add value to ANRC’s R&D efforts.”

C-17 Globemaster III Inducted into the IAF

Giving impetus to the long standing strategic airlift of the Indian Air Force, the Defence Minister Shri AK Antony today formally inducted the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III into the IAF at a special ceremony held at Hindan airbase of the IAF.

The Induction ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries including the Minister of State for Defence Shri Jitendra Singh, the Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne, Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Arup Raha, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Air Command Air Marshal SS Soman, the US Ambassador to India Ms Nancy Powell and other Senior Officials of the IAF, USAF and Air warriors of the newly formed C-17 squadron “SKYLORDS”.

Describing the induction of the C-17 Globemaster III in the Indian Air Force as a ‘defining moment’, Shri Antony said, “With this, the IAF has taken a giant stride towards its goal of acquiring multi- spectrum strategic capabilities, essential to safeguard India’s growing areas of interest”.

Shri Antony said the government had expedited the process of procuring 10 C-17 Globemaster III from the United States as apart of the Foreign Military sales programme because it was felt that there was a need for a capable strategic airlift platform.

Shri Antony said the rapidly evolving geopolitical environment around us calls for a robust national security architecture.

“Traditional Challenges to our national security have evolved into complex multi-dimensional threats. A long-term comprehensive capability enhancement approach by and for our Armed Forces is the need of the hour. On its part, the government remains fully committed to this responsibility”.

Lauding the stellar role played by the IAF in rescue and relief operations during the recent Uttarakhand flash floods, he said, “Today’s induction of C-17 will further boost IAF’s capability for Humanitarian Assistance and Diaster Relief”.

Referring to the Indo-US strategic partnership, Shri Antony said the induction of C-17 adds another important milestones in this relationship.

Recalling the journey embarked by the IAF to fulfill the futuristic needs of Air operations, Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne said “The induction of ten C-17 aircraft promises to be a game changer on how we conduct air transport operations. The C-17 fleet will provide tremendous flexibility in terms of operational response options in any future campaign. The long range, heavy lift capability will allow the commanders to induct Troops, squadrons, Re-locate Forces as well as shift forces between theatres rapidly”. The C-17 would form an extremely important component of the strategic airlift capability and reach of the IAF.

On the raising and the beginning of the new chapter of 81 Sqn the Air Chief said “The SKYLORDS join a very unique group of officers and me of our Transport squadrons who bring with them a legacy of Honour, Dedication and sacrifice with a mandate to uphold the highest professional standards of IAF”. He further exhorted them saying “keep the work ethos of IAF foremost as you prepare yourselves to complete every mission with Honour and Pride”.

The government accorded approval to buy 10 C-17 Globemaster III along with associated equipment for the IAF in June 2011. The first of the 10 aircraft touched down in India on 18th June 2013 and the delivery of all 10 is expected to be completed by November 2014. This aircraft will enhance the operational potential of the IAF with its payload carriage and performance and would augment the strategic reach of the nation during Operations, Disaster Relief or any similar mission. The induction of the C-17 is a major milestone in the modernization drive of the IAF.

Presently three aircrafts have been delivered and are operational. The newly inducted C-17 Squadron (81 Squadron) will be based in Hindan.

Boeing Delivers Indian Air Force's 3rd C-17 Globemaster III
The third Boeing [NYSE: BA] C-17 Globemaster III airlifter for the Indian Air Force (IAF) departed for India Aug. 20 from the company’s Long Beach facility.
It joins the first and second India C-17 airlifters, which arrived in June and July, respectively. Boeing is on track to deliver two more C-17s to the IAF this year and five in 2014.
In operation since 1991, the C-17 is a large, versatile military transport aircraft able to carry heavy, oversize loads long distances and land on rough and unprepared surfaces. It has been used in humanitarian and military missions around the world and recently surpassed 2.6 million flight hours.
Boeing has delivered 256 C-17s, including 222 to the U.S. Air Force and a total of 34 to Australia, Canada, India, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the 12-member Strategic Airlift Capability initiative of NATO and Partnership for Peace nations.

IAF to induct its biggest transport plane on Monday

Defence Minister A K Antony will today formally induct 70-tonne C-17 heavy-lift transport aircraft into service at the Hindon Air Base near Delhi. The Defence Minister will formally induct the aircraft procured from the US under a deal expected to be over Rs 20,000 crore into the newly-formed 81 'Skylord' Squadron here, IAF officials said here. The American C-17, with a capability to carry around 80 tonnes of load and around 150 fully geared troops, will replace the Russian Il-76 as the biggest aircraft in the IAF inventory till now. The Il-76 had the capability to carry loads upto around 40 tonnes. The IAF has placed orders with the US for ten such aircraft under the deal signed in 2011 and three of them have already been delivered.
The IAF operates six C-130Js and has plans of procuring six more for operations on small and unpaved runways alongside routine transport missions. The IAF also has the Russian Antonov-32 in its inventory.
