The Philips MRI Guided HIFU system has been clinically approved for the treatment of non-cancerous tumors like uterine fibroids and malignancies like bone metastases. MRI guided HIFU offers a non-invasive alternative to traditional treatments for uterine fibroids in women. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years. Also called myomas, uterine fibroids are not associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never develop into cancer. A doctor may discover them incidentally during a pelvic exam or prenatal ultrasound.
