SAP Labs India, the second largest Research and Development center for SAP globally, has opened SAPlings, a state-of-the art on-site Child Care Center at its campus in Whitefield, Bangalore.
With a capacity to accommodate 150 children in the age group of 9 months to 12 years, this facility will have a high impact in creating and propagating a more gender diverse workforce. Jim Hagemann Snabe, Co-CEO SAP AG inaugurated SAPlings during his visit to India. This inauguration aligns with SAP Labs’ strong belief in diversity and gender inclusivity, which form the key drivers for success. With SAP planning to increase the number of women in its management position to 25% by end 2017, such initiatives will positively benefit women employees intending to discontinue their career due to demands of parenting.
SAPlings complements benefits that SAP Labs India already provides to help employees in work life balance, including options to work from home and part time work policy. SAPlings is a fully employee driven initiative. Built on a total area of 10,300 sq. feet, this child development center will take care of infants, toddlers and also provide Montessori education.
SAPlings has been specially designed keeping in mind the basic concept of ‘Early Childhood Development’. Aspects of safety and hygiene have been carefully incorporated as part of the design. SAP Labs is partnering with We Care, a reputed professionally run early childcare and learning centre.
“Like most other SAP Labs’ HR policies, SAPlings too is the result of an employee driven need and initiative,” said Bhuvaneswar Naik, Vice President – Human Resources, SAP, India. “This effort is meant to benefit working parents of young children which is about 30% of our total work force. With a safe, secure and friendly environment to take care of their children, parents at SAP Labs can now work with a more relaxed frame of mind.”
Delighted with the opening of SAPlings, Mytreyi Sadhu, an Associate architect at SAP Labs said “This is of great significance. Now I don’t have to worry about taking care of my child while I am at work. Since, we employees were totally involved in creating this world-class child care center it is all the more comforting.”
Key features of SAPlings include:
· Montessori education and child development activities
· Pediatrician visits; emergency backup care; shuttle service and summer camps
· 30 baby beds with defined storages for every infant
· Multifunctional spaces on two floors for different activities ( AV Room/ Music & dance room/ Library)
