The students enjoyed 3-days of intense sports action at the three day Inter-Collegiate Wrestling, Judo, Gymnastics and Mallakhamba Competitions 2012-13, organized by Visvesvaraya Technological University. The competitions were held at two different venues namely MVJ College of Engineering and Jayanagar Sports Club, Bangalore. The Inter-Collegiate Wrestling and Judo Competitions were held at the MVJ college grounds, while the Gymnastics and Mallakhamba Competitions took place at the Jayanagar Sports Club, Bangalore.
The Wrestling and Judo teams of MVJ College of Engineering hauled the maximum number of medals at the competitions. In Wrestling, students of MVJCE won 8 medals, 1 Gold in the under 55kg category; 2 Silver out of which 1 medal in the 96kg category and the other in the 83kg category and 5 Bronze, 3 bronze in 50kg category, 2 in the 96kg category and 1 in 73kg category. MVJ College of Engineering won the wrestling competition, defeating BVB College of Engineering, Hubli by 7 points in the finals. BVB College of Engineering, Hubli secured the first runner up trophy in the Wrestling Competition.
In Judo, the MVJCE team was declared winners with 7 medals- 3 gold-1 Gold in the under 90kg category, 1 in the 80kg category and the other gold in the 66kg category; 1 Silver in the 66kg category and 3 Bronze in above 100kg category- 1 in 80kg category and 1 in 56kg category. BVB College of Engineering, Hubli secured the first runner up trophy in the Judo Competition.
The award for best performing teams went to five colleges namely RV College of Engineering, Bangalore, NMAMIT from NITE College, Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology (AIET), Mangalore and Sir M Visveswaraya Institute of Technology,Bangalore (MVIT).
PES College, Mandya, SIET Tumkur and VDDEC, Mysore have been selected for representing Karnataka in the Gymnastics and Mallakhambha.
In Wrestling, Siddalinga Reddy won the Gold in 55kg category, Muruli NT won Silver in 84Kg category, Manjegowda E.S won Silver in 96Kg category, Mohammed Sameer and Shubham Singh won Bronze in the under 50 kg, Jeevan DM won Bronze in 66Kg category, Kuruvetteppa VD won Bronze in 74Kg category and Dinesh J won Bronze in 96Kg category.
In Judo, Hemanth won Gold under 56Kg category, Jeevan DM won Gold in 66Kg category, Kuruvatteppa won Gold in 81Kg category, Piyush Raj won Silver in 66Kg category, Sathish Jadav won Bronze in 60Kg category, Prem Rinchin won Bronze in 81Kg category and Avinash EM won Bronze in Open category.
