Cardiological Society Of India (CSI) creates history by setting a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS
Cardiological Society Of India (CSI), 64 year old and most respected organization in the field of cardiac sciences organised “World Heart Fest 2012” Powered by Maruti Suzuki Dezire and partnered by Quaker Oats, a daylong awareness event dedicated to the prevention of heart diseases at the NSIC Grounds, Kalkaji in New Delhi on 30th September 2012, a day after the World Heart Day. This awareness event’ with free cholesterol, sugar check, cardiac check-ups, healthy heart tips, expert was to done to kickstart a larger prevention drive to fight heart diseases by the Cardiological Society of India.


The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, Member of Parliament Mr. Sandeep Dikshit and witnessed participation by Delhites in huge numbers. CSI discussed a major agenda with the Delhi Chief Minister to create a manifesto targeted towards reversing the trend of heart disease in Delhi and in the long run in India. The manifesto included institution of certain policies to create a heart healthy population in the state which comprised of:

1. Heart Healthy food and curriculum should be Mandatory in Schools.

2. Reforms in Primary healthcare system of the country to include basic cardiac diagnostic and treatment facilities available at district level

3. Regulation of TRANSFATS in Packed food as well as Restaurants.

4. Regulating Corporate world to create Stress free and Heart Healthy environment for employees includingexercise equipment

5. Strict Policies on encouraging Green Spaces and walking grounds in all areas.

6. State driven micro-insurance to cover the whole population for accessing the treatments

Cardiological Society Of India (CSI) created a history by setting of new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM by creating highest heart shaped balloon cluster of 25000 helium filled balloons carrying messages on prevention of Heart Disease and ‘call to action’ for Govt. The event also marked the creation of Largest Human Heart logo by enthusiastic crowd which is also a National record. Along with, thousands of patients did cardiac check-ups, the event also cleared their doubts through question and answer and had free ECG, blood tests and were taught basic life support to conquer Heart Disease in India. “This event and the human heart logo convey our commitment to “BEAT HEART DISEASE” by setting a national agenda to create heart friendly policies and the time to act is now” said Dr Ashok Seth, President, Cardiological Society of India. WHO estimates that by 2020, Cardio vascular diseases will be the largest cause of disability and death in India. Currently there are 41 million suffering from diabetes, 118 million suffering from hypertension and if current trends continue the figures will rise to 70 and 213 million respectively by 2025.


“We need to act at ground level to create seriousness about this killer disease and shall impress the government to bring cardiovascular diseases at the forefront while creating central and state healthcare policies” added Dr Ashok Seth.

Supported by the medical and the corporate fraternity, the event also aimed towards creating awareness about those little lifestyle changes that one must bring about to lead a heart healthy life under aegis of CSI. The event was not only supported by Fortis Healthcare and other health brands like Abbott, Boston Scientific, Belluvia, Meril and USV but also food brand Quaker Oats, World’s leading oat brand, who reiterated the need for smart and healthy nutrition to prevent heart diseases. Maruti Suzuki Dezire, the heart car, the principal sponsors of the event extensively supported the cause and the event and encouraged families to lead a healthy lifestyle


“I am happy that I attended this event. I am going back with complete knowledge of the heart disease and its prevention. I wish more events like this can be organised.” Said Rich Trivedi, resident of South Delhi who attended this event.

Parikrama, the most celebrated band of the country, leant its voice to the noble cause. “It gives me immense pleasure as we play today for this cause. Personally I feel that this is the biggest musical tribute that we could give to the loved ones we have lost to the disease”, said Subir Malik from Parikrama.
