Maruti Suzuki Colors of Youth, the nationwide hunt for India’s most talented youngster came to a sizzling end here today. In what could only be termed as a fitting finale, ‘Maruti Suzuki Colours of Youth’ saw the participants enthrall the audience with their riveting performance. ‘Maruti Suzuki Colours of Youth’ is a national level competition open to students from Engineering & Management colleges.

A team from BR Medical College comprising Jacob Ipe, Bharath K, Srikumar R, Chetan BA, Abrar Shariff, Madhu Kumar and Vinu Vijayan were amongst the second runner up winners for their Skit.

The evening however, belonged to Gian Singh Namdhari of Ludhiana College of Engineering & Technology who clinched the title with a stunning classical/vocal performance on the Jori Pakhawaj. Gian Singh Namdhari was accompanied by Isher Singh Namdhari who played the Taar-Shehnai.

Arindam Biswas (IIM Kolkata) and Suraj. R Chaube finished joint second where Arindam thrilled the crowd with self compositions on the electric guitar. The satirical monologue on Indian society from Suraj R Chaube hit the right cord amongst the audience. The teams from Symbiosis of International Business and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College finished joint third.

“I would like to thank Maruti Suzuki on giving me this opportunity to showcase and perform with the Jori Pakhawaj, the traditional musical instruments of my household. A special thanks to my guru Ustad Sukhwinder Singh ‘Pinki’ who has taught me and enabled me to preserve the art of these traditional musical instruments” said Gian Singh Namdhari on his victory. Incidentally, Gian Singh Namdhari finished as the first runner-up in last year’s edition of Maruti Suzuki Colors of Youth.

The contest began in the month of November 2012 with over 2800 registrations. Over 900 participants representing over 150 colleges participated in the preliminary rounds held across 10 cities. The preliminary rounds were followed by 4 zonal rounds wherein the winners were chosen purely on the basis of their performance and aptitude displayed in the final rounds held in their respective cities. Out of these only 16 managed to qualify for the national finale, held today in Gurgaon.

Congratulating the winners, Mr. Manohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “This is the second year of Maruti Suzuki Colors of youth. The number of registrations received show the popularity of the contest amongst the youth. Maruti Suzuki encourages young talent and we have many such platforms designed specifically for them. We will continue to add such events to our annual calendar.”

The panel of judges comprised of renowned musician Mr. Subir Malik (Founder Member -Parikrama) and Ms. Isha Koppikar, a noted model and Bollywood actress.

‘Maruti Suzuki Colors of Youth’ is an institutional level competition spanning over a period of five months. The competition saw students from leading business schools like IIM Indore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Kolkata,  SIIB Pune, Great Lakes Institute Chennai. The 10 cities for preliminary rounds included Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Indore and Lucknow.
