The 1st ever edition of AROGYA MELA 2013 which is organized by Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI) and Bangalore International Exhibition Service (BIES) was inaugurated today by His Excellency Dr.Hans Raj Bhardwaj, Governor of Karnataka. This three day seminar-cum-exhibition from September 5 to September 7th 2013 at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, Tumkur Road, is a unique initiative by AHPI to empower patients, common man and the society at large on various healthcare issues like clinical guidelines, safe medication, preventive health check-ups, healthcare financing schemes and also provide them with guidance on their rights in respect of their healthcare needs.
It is also a platform where healthcare providers and medical education institutions can connect with the patients directly and continuously respond to the emerging needs to improve their lives. The theme of the conference is ‘Improving Patient Safety and Reducing Cost of Healthcare’. Apart from the conference, a book on the" Healthcare guidelines for patient' by AHPI was also another attraction. The inaugural ceremony was also graced by eminent personalities such as Shri U.T. Khader, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka; Dr. Devi Shetty, Chairman - Healthex International 2013, Chairman, Narayana Health; Dr. Prem Nair, President, Association of Healthcare Providers (India) and Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Giridhar Gyani, Director General, AHPI.
The exhibition witnessed participation over 25 - 30 hospitals, more than 100 International trade offices, National and international health insurance companies, Health travel & tour operators, Key industry decision makers and CEO's; State health / tourism departments and other government departments along with over 500 General public seeking healthcare services. The seminar covered interesting subjects pertaining to various facets of the healthcare delivery and deliberates on the need for adopting the best practices for quality healthcare delivery.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Guest of Honour Dr.Hans Raj Bhardwaj, Governor of Karnataka, said “I am extremely happy to be here for the inauguration of the Arogya Mela organized for the first time in Karnataka by the Association of Healthcare Providers ( India) as this event attempts to emphasize the need of the well-being of the community at a large scale. This will empower a common to be aware of the steps he or she must take to foresee and take preventive measures against health hazards in the form of communicable and non-communicable diseases."
The inaugural day (September 6, 2013) focused on seminars where eminent speakers spoke about administering and improving clinical governance, patient safety measures, assessing cost of healthcare and realizing technology for doctors in enabling universal healthcare. It also covered sessions on ‘How to sustain and scale up your business in the healthcare sector’. The workshops helped clinicians to improve patient safety through clinical audit.

Its importance has driven remarkable international advancements in the healthcare industry. Changes in the lifestyle of the people are resulting in a dual disease burden. This year’s Arogya Mela will focus on Patient Safety besides providing insight on interesting subjects pertaining to various aspects of the healthcare delivery and deliberates on the need for spreading awareness among the common man on adopting the best practices for and understanding their rights in sphere of their healthcare needs.“
The second day focuses on cost competitiveness applying balance scorecard for measuring financial and non-financial parameters in hospitals and productive maintenance of medical equipment and facilities. The day also covers realizing technology for hospitals in enabling universal healthcare and provides platform to connect with funding agencies for fuelling business. The workshop on ‘Lean Health’ will assist in improving efficiency and profitability of hospital. Yet another attraction for the all the days were health check-up kiosks/pavilions along with expert talks, educational films, special consultations and advices by various medical institutions.
