To commemorate the birth anniversary of Late Sri Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, Former Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and after whom the Ranga Reddy District in Andhra Pradesh is named, a cricket tournament – ‘Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy Memorial Cup-2013’ is being hosted.
Addressing a Press Conference at Press Club, Basheerbagh on Sunday, Mr. G. Vinod, President, Hyderabad Cricket Association & Former Minister, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh; Mr. K. Harishwar Reddy, M.L.A., Parigi; Mr. Konda Visheweshwar Reddy & family members and Mr. Routhu Kanakaiah of Progressive Telangana Foundation, said the Cricket tournament is being organized to encourage youth from the rural areas of Ranga Reddy District in sports and games and unearth the enormously talented youngsters in the district.
Mr. Vinod paying glowing tributes to Sri Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, said he was a great cricket enthusiast and wanted the youth of Telangana to pick up the game to develop positive traits like discipline, concentration, patience. HCA has allocated Rs 20 lakhs for each district in Telangana to encourage cricket amongst the youth. We have tremendous potential to unearth genuine fast bowlers in these districts, as they seem to have natural talent. He promised to constitute a team from HCA to guide in the conducting of ‘Konda Venkat Ranga Reddy Memorial Cricket Tournament’ and would himself devote time in successful hosting of this tournament. This tournament is the right opportunity for the youth of Ranga Reddy District to exhibit their talent and come into limelight. He wanted the youth to avail this opportunity by registering for the tournament in good numbers.
According to Mr. Vishweshwar Reddy, the tournament is expected to have 120 teams participating, with each mandal in the district being represented by four to five teams. The total prize money of the tournament is Rs. 2 lakh and a certificate of appreciation will be presented. Around 60 matches are expected to be conducted at Chevalla and Nanakramguda cricket grounds, spread over six weeks. The inaugural match of the tournament will be played on December 12, 2013 - the 123rd birth anniversary of Sri Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, at Chevalla Cricket Grounds and the final will be played on January 15th, 2014 at Nanakramguda grounds. The teams interested in participating in the tournament need to register and enroll the names of the players along with their Aadhar Cards.
