Amazon opens its second Fulfillment Center in Bangalore

Amazon Seller Services India Pvt Ltd today announced plans to open its second Fulfillment Center in India. First in South India, the new fulfillment center is located near Bangalore and is spread over 150,000 square feet. It will be operational by February with both inbound and outbound services.  The new, modern, multilevel, secure facility equipped with Amazon’s world-class and state-of-the-art warehousing systems and processes will be able to stock and store millions of products of all sizes across several categories from sellers using Fulfillment by Amazon.

This investment is part of Amazon’s continued and relentless focus on enhancing online shopping experience for consumers in India and enabling Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to get a scalable and robust national platform using Fulfillment by Amazon. The new facility will provide existing and new retailers from South India closer access to Amazon’s world-class fulfillment capabilities. Customers can expect broader selection across categories available for immediate shipment and eligible for Amazon’s Next-Day Guaranteed service.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr M N Vidyashankar, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Karnataka, said, “I congratulate Amazon India on its ongoing success, and I am pleased that together we were able to bring this significant investment those retailers across South India and especially Karnataka will benefit from.”

“We are very excited by the tremendous response from sellers of all sizes for our Fulfillment by Amazon offering in the short span of seven months since launch of Amazon.in. We are also thrilled by the customer response to our recently launched Next-Day Guaranteed Delivery service in several cities. Today over 120,000 plus products are available for next day delivery across eligible pin codes in several cities. The launch of the new fulfillment center in Bangalore is part of our continued investment in providing fast and reliable delivery across vast selection of products, and enabling sellers of all sizes to achieve nationwide scale,” said Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India.

Amazon Fulfillment Centers are warehouses where online retailers who use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) services, stock their inventory of their products. Amazon has created one of the most advanced fulfillment networks in the world and sellers in India have been benefitting from Amazon’s expertise in fulfillment, reliable nationwide delivery and customer service. When using FBA, sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s fulfillment centers and once an order is placed, Amazon packs and ships the order to the customer without the sellers having to do anything. Orders fulfilled by Amazon are not only eligible for Cash on Delivery, Free Delivery promotions, and Guaranteed Next-Day delivery but also benefit from Amazon’s  customer service and returns management, enabling sellers to focus on their core business.

Sellers save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders Amazon fulfills. Sellers always have the flexibility to choose the number of products they want to have fulfilled by Amazon and scale according to their business requirements. Globally, sellers converting items to FBA generally see a 30-40% uplift in sales.

“Sellers have greatly appreciated our Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, a pay-as-you-go fulfillment service and a key feature of our e-commerce platform. With the new FC in Bangalore we will  enable many more SMEs in India, particularly in South India to take advantage of this service and help them expand their online business. We will continue to do the heavy lifting on behalf of sellers so that they can focus on providing our customers with vast selection at low prices,” adds Amit Deshpande, Director & GM Seller Services, Amazon India.

Amazon’s first and current Fulfillment Centre is located on the outskirts of Mumbai, in Bhiwandi, and is also spread across 150,000 square-feet area. To know more about FBA service, visit: http://services.amazon.in/services/fulfilment-by-amazon/benefits.html
