Election Commission of India has issued strict guidelines for conducting Yoga Shivirs. It was brought to notice of the commission that such Yoga Camps (Yoga Shivirs) were used for political campaigning. District Election Officers and Returning officers have been directed to verify the credentials of the organizers and the participants of such Yoga Camps.
The Election commission, in a communication to all state chief electoral officers, said it had come to its notice that "in certain places, while permission was sought by certain organizations to organize non-political activities like yoga camps etc, the platform of the function was used for political campaigning in clear violation of the conditions on which the permission was granted."
If any misuse of the permission of Yoga Camps are found then it must be brought to the notice of the Chief Election Officer with immediate effect. It may be noted that Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev is conducting such Yoga Camps across various parts of the country and has extended his unflinching support for Narendra Modi the prime ministerial candidate of BJP. Earlier Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry, who is pitted against Narendra Modi in Vadodra, requested the poll body not to allow Baba Ramdev to hold a yoga camp in Vadodra on April 26.
EC Secretary Sumit Mukherjee had signed the notice on behalf of the Election Commission of India.
