About the cartoonist: Ranjan Somaiah (Ran-Som) was a contributing catoonist with the Deccan Herald for more than 10 years. A graduate of IIT, Madras, Ran-som was employed by Tata Consulting Engineers fro many years before he set out on his own. Apart from cartooning, he designs off-beat buildings, paints in watercolors and oil (has held exhibitions at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat), has illustrated a children’s book and has executed sculptural installations in stainless steel.
