Promote ethically and morally acceptable tourism, Goa Governor
Mr. B V Wanchoo, hon'ble governor of Goa has urged the tourism industry in Goa to promote ethically and morally acceptable norms for the tourism trade.
"I would like to strongly and particularly underscore the need for adopting sustainable measures and promoting ethically and morally acceptable norms for tourism-related activity," Wanchoo told the gathering  while inaugurating third edition of Goa International Travel Mart (GITM), a three day long event.
He said that it is critically important to know to balance between development with culture and social values in the best overall interest of the state.
"Effective regulatory measures need to be put in place and should be employed to arrest undesirable activities, if any, in the nature of tourism or promoting tourism, so that development and social values go hand in hand," he added.
Currently the tourism industry in Goa is growing at 12 per cent per year and little more than 3 million tourists visited Goa last year.
Goa Tourism Department also re-launched it new look website www.goa-tourism.com with a new tag line ‘Kenna slow, Kenna fast’ (‘sometimes slow, sometimes fast!’) at the inauguration of 3rd Goa International Travel Mart (GITM). Present at the inauguration were principal secretary (tourism) R K Srivastava, Travel and tourism association of Goa president Francisco Braganca and Nikhil Desai director Goa Tourism dep.A total of 100 hosted buyers from 28 countries, 150 hosted domestic buyers as well another 100 buyers attended the three-day GITM in Goa.
