Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport wins award
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), operated and managed by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), has been honoured with the ‘ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence’ award by the Airport Council International (ACI), in recognition of the airport being in the top 3 airports in the world for 5 consecutive years. With this, RGIA has now become the only airport in India to have received the distinction.

ACI, the global body of airports, has also adjudged RGIA as the 2nd best airport in the world for 2013, in the 5-15 million passengers per annum (MPPA) category. The airport, while maintaining its position of last year, commendably improved its score to 4.80, from last year’s 4.71, indicating the airport’s serious approach in addressing passenger comfort and convenience issues during their transit through RGIA. To mention, RGIA has been consistently ranked as the best airport in 2009 & 2010, third best in 2011, and second best in 2012 & 2013.

Mr. S.G.K. Kishore, CEO-GHIAL received the award from Ms. Angela Gittens, Director General, Airport Council International (ACI), at a recently-held gala awards ceremony of the Airports Council International in Seoul, South Korea.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kishore said “It is an honour for us to have retained this coveted rank. We are happy that ever since inception we have been consistently achieving significant rankings. In this regard, GHIAL takes pride in thanking all its stakeholders and the airport community that has worked with utmost commitment, vision and demonstrated great teamwork in making this accomplishment possible. I particularly thank CISF, Immigrations, Customs, BCAS, Airlines, Regulators, Concessionaires, Vendors, Service Providers and other stakeholders for their association.” The CEO also added that the awards give them further impetus and inspiration to scale higher peaks and constantly reinvent themselves in serving the passengers better.

The ACI which carries out surveys at 285 airports around the world, ranks the airports on the basis of airport service quality surveys which consider passengers’ immediate appraisal from check-in through departure at the gate. These awards represent passengers’ views on 34 key service indicators and are an objective and accurate indicator of the top world-wide performing airports.
