Denial of entry to dhoti-clad men is against Constitution,Tamil Nadu CM J #Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa has warned clubs in TN over banning dresses other than western attire after a club denied entry to a judge for wearing dhoti.She said, “Denial of entry to dhoti-clad men is against Constitution, democratic norms, individual rights Tamil culture. Denial of entry to dhoti-clad men is sartorial despotism."
controversy started in Tamil Nadu over dress codes after a Madras High Court judge and an advocate were denied entry into the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association Club for wearing dhotis, instead of trousers. The political parties took up the issue in the state Assembly on Monday.

After political parties raised the issue in the state Assembly, the AIADMK government has promised it will consult both Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and its legal department before taking action.

Members of the Madras High Court Bar Association have also joined the protest against the TNCA's move to deny entry to a sitting judge and two senior advocates for wearing a dhoti. They said that there is nothing inferior about wearing a dhoti and demanded the club be closed down.
