Actor #Aamir Khan has donated Rs.11 lakhs for Mumbai International Film Festival

Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films

• The first ever International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films was held in the year 1990. The biennial festival is conducted with the active collaboration of Government of Maharashtra and the Indian Documentary Producers’ Association. The city of Mumbai is the permanent venue of the festival.

• MIFF is one of the most prestigious festival in the documentary, short and animation genre at par with International Film Festivals like Leipzig, Berlin, Oberhausen, Cracow and Tampere etc.

• Apart from the Competition Section, MIFF also holds:

• Considering the enormous amount of entries from within India, MIFF has introduced a separate Indian competition section from the year 1998.

• MIFF is an important platform for the documentary film makers to meet, interact and exchange ideas, as it attracts the best of films made all over the world.

• Many internationally renowned film makers like Nagisa Oshima, Werner Kobe, Krzysztof Zanussi, Peter Wintonik, etc. participated in the festival as juries / participants.

• On an average, more than 45 – 50 countries participate in every edition of the festival.

• MIFF honours a veteran documentary film maker with the ‘Dr. V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award’ which carries cash component of Rs.5.00 lakhs and citation.

• MIFF also reaches out to the far plunge in the North East by showcasing the package of MIFF award winning films.

• So far 12 editions of MIFF have been held successfully. The 12 of MIFF was held from 3 Performing Arts, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

• Total 567 entries in Indian Section and 224 entries in International Section were received from 37 countries for MIFF – 2012. During the festival, 332 films of national and international acclaim were screened.
