The Jadavpur University molestation case took an ugly turn when 35-40 students who were part of a protest outside the vice-chancellor’s office were arrested by the police. The students were lathicharged and dragged. It has been alleged police along with TMC supporters were involved in the manhandling of the protesting student. Women students who were part of the protest have filed a molestation complaint against the police.
The students were demanding a fresh probe panel in the case where a woman student was dragged into a men's hostel and molested.
The student gheraoed of the vice-chancellor and registrar of Jadavpur University to press their demand of a fresh probe panel to investigate the matter. The police action took place around 2 am in the middle of the night.TV crew present on the spot also faced police brutality. Students have demanded resignation of vice-chancellor Abhijit Chakraborty.
Ealier a Jadavpur University girl student had alleged that she was dragged into the boys' hostel by at least 10 men, including some outsiders, and sexually assaulted after a campus fest on August 28.
