The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has expressed his grief over the loss of lives in the militant attacks on tribals in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam. He has sanctioned ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50000/- to seriously injured persons from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Rs.86 lakhs is being released to State Government from PMNRF.

As the death toll mounted to 62 in the four attacks by National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants in Assam’s Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts, angry Adivasi villagers on Wednesday retaliated by setting ablaze houses of Bodos and took out protest marches.

The Cabinet, which met this morning under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, paid homage to the victims of the cowardly attacks in Assam yesterday. The Cabinet members observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the victims.
