Non-utilisation of Rs.1000 cr Nirbhaya fund by #BJP Govt.says #AAP

Following the alleged rape of a woman by an Uber taxi driver a Cabinet note to use the Rs 1,000 crore Nirbhaya fund to create a GPS-based vehicle-tracking system is being rushed through by the ministry.


After the horrific Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case of December 2012, then UPA government had announced a Rs 1,000 crore fund named after Nirbhaya to help women in distress in February 2013.


In a recent press meet in Delhi AAP's Atishi Marlena said, a response to an RTI application by AAP activist Vansh Saluja it was revealed that there was no disbursement or utilisation of money under Nirbhaya Fund.AAP parliamentary party leader and Lok Sabha MP from Patiala, Dr Dharamvira Gandhi tried to obtain latest information and  received a letter from the women and child development ministry stating that the government proposes to open 50 centres to help women in distress.Gandhi, who is also a parliamentary leader of the party, said he had got a land santioned for a centre for women in his constituency, but no money has been released.

"I have now reliably learnt that the Prime Minister's Office so far has not endorsed the opening of these centres," the AAP MP claimed.
