International day of Holocaust observed in #Delhi

The 'International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th, is a memorial day for the genocide that resulted in the death of 6 million Jews and others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. In 2005, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution establishing 27 January as International Holocaust Remembrance Day urging every member nation to honor the memory of Holocaust victims.

The memorial event, held in Delhi, which was organized by Alliance Française de Delhi, in association with the Embassies of Israel, France and the United Nations Information Centre, started with a short memorial ceremony for school students from Delhi. Hundreds of students from various schools participated in the ceremony, where the movie 'The Last Korczak Boy', was also screened. Students also wrote messages which were hung outside on barbed wires as a mark of respect for the Holocaust victims.  The afternoon session involved college students from various renowned universities such as JNU, Delhi University, IIMC, Delhi School of Arts and others.

The evening concluded with the screening of the film, ‘Rafting to Bombay’, by Israeli film Director Erez Laufer, which depicts the tragic story of 5 year old Nahum and his mother on how they escaped the Nazis in Poland, crossed Europe by train and sailed to India.
