Justice (retd) Bhagabati Prasad Banerjee, who as a judge of Calcutta high court had fixed the decibel level for use of loudspeakers and crackers in an historic 1996 order, died in a private nursing home in Kolkata recently. He was 79. He was elevated as a judge of Calcutta high court in 1984. He retired in 1998. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family. The Calcutta high court bar association moved a resolution to pay their respect .
