One of India's most celebrated military officer Lieutenant General JFR Jacob (retd) passed away today at the age of 92.He was one of the architects of the 1971 war which resulted in creation of Bangladesh.
General Jacob will always be remembered in India and around the world as the Indian commander who negotiated the surrender of Pakistani troops in Dhaka following the 1971 Liberation War. His service to India had been an extraordinary one in which he was part of some of India’s most crucial moments.
A proud son of the Jewish community of India, Lieutenant General JFR Jacob was born in 1923 in Calcutta, where his family who came from Baghdad, settled.Following the passing away of "JFR" Jacob today, Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon has expressed his deep sadness.
