#UK to impose sugar tax on soft drinks to cut obesity, Indian Parliamentary panel wants smaller pictorial warnings on #tobacco




UK's finance minister George Osborne said on Wednesday "We all know one of the biggest contributors to childhood obesity is sugary drinks.I can announce that we will introduce a new sugar levy on the soft drinks industry,"


India's Union Ministry of Health has promised to implement anti-tobacco warnings covering 85 per cent area of both sides of cigarette and beedi packs, the parliamentary Committee reviewing the issue of pictorial warnings on cigarette and beedi packages has mooted only 50 per cent coverage in its report tabled in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. For beedis, the panel wants only single sided warnings as against full of coverage the Ministry is planning.
