4th Edition of Bangalore Nano during 8th and 9th December 2011

The Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka under the able guidance of Vision Group on Nanotechnology led by Prof. C.N.R. Rao, FRS, Honorary President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) today announced that the 4th edition of Bangalore Nano event will be held on 8th and 9th of December 2011 at Bangalore. The 4th congregation of Bangalore Nano will feature an exhibition and conference sessions addressed by internationally acclaimed speakers and experts discussing a range of issues pertaining to research, technology development, skills requirement, institutions involved, risks issues, regulatory & governance structure, Investment and collaborations between Academia, R&D & Industry.


Making the announcement Mr. M N Vidyashankar, IAS - Principal Secretary to Government, Dept. of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, said, “Nanotechnology has turned to be one of the most important technologies in the last decade and is making great inroads in the Healthcare, Environment, Energy, Agriculture, ICT, Engineering and Consumer Goods sectors. Bangalore Nano has enabled experts, scientists, researchers, industry and start-ups to meet and exchange notes on tomorrow's nanotechnology. It is a meeting point for academia, research and industry featuring inspiring talks, high quality research papers and to showcase innovative & ground breaking nano-applications. India and more specifically Karnataka will be a major global player in the field of Nanotechnology in the years to come.”

The Government of India’s launch of a Mission on Nano Science and Technology (Nano Mission) has been a step in this direction. Capacity-building in the area of Nanotechnology research will be of utmost importance for the Nano Mission so that India emerges as a global knowledge-hub in this field replicating its success in Information Technology & Biotechnology.¨

The event will see participation of Chief Scientific Officers, Policy Makers, Industry Leaders, Scientists, Research Leaders / Fellows / Advisors from Industry, Government and Research Institutions.

The focus areas of Bangalore Nano 2011 are Advanced Nanomaterials; Fabrication, Characterization & Tools; Medicine, Food, Agriculture and Biotech; Energy & Environment and Education & Public Engagement. Bangalore Nano 2011 will be two full days of presentations and discussions as well as interactive networking activities - a meeting place for the global Scientists, Industry, Academia & Government. Over hundred leading international and Indian companies will be participating in Bangalore Nano 2011. Large International Delegations are expected from Russia, Germany, USA, Canada, Poland during this year’s event. Over 60 expert speakers will address the gathering and some of the leading International Speakers include Dr. E.W. Meijer, Eindhoven University of Technology, Biomedical Engineering Materials Technology, The Netherlands; Dr. Timothy Fisher, Purdue University, Birck Nanotechnology Center, USA.

This year’s event will also feature the programme ¨Research Industry Collaboration Hub¨ (RICH) offering unique partnering opportunities for showcasing innovations in Nanotechnology. RICH will facilitate podium presentations and one-to-one meetings for emerging entrepreneurs in Nanotechnology.

A special program "Nano for the Young” is also being organized in the event. Students from various engineering, medical & Bio-Tech colleges across Bangalore can attend this special session which will be addressed by Prof. C.N.R. Rao.

Bangalore Nano 2011 will feature ´Poster Session´ providing a unique opportunity for Scientists and Researchers to share their Innovations and Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology with Industry, Research Institutes and Venture Capitalists.

Giving a summary of the previous year´s Bangalore Nano, the Managing Director of MM Activ, Mr. Jagdish Patankar said, “We had 410 delegates from 250 plus organizations hailing from 12 Countries. Over 50 eminent internationally acclaimed speakers addressed the conference, including Prof. Sir Richard Friend, Dr. Anthony Cheetham, Prof. Yoshio Bando, Dr. Dunbar Birnie, Mr. Ingo Hollein, Mr. Stefan Bill, Dr. Henning Zoz, Mr. Gregory Favaro among others.”

Bangalore Nano National Award would be presented during the event to a distinguished personality for achievements in the field of Nanotechnology. A special jury under the Chairmanship of Prof. C.N.R. Rao would select the awardee. The previous recipients of the award are Prof. C.N.R. Rao in 2007, Prof. Dipankar Chakravorty in 2008 and Prof. Ajay K. Sood in 2010. Additionally, a new award has been instituted from this year onwards - ¨India Nanotech Innovation Awards¨ for innovative and pioneering initiatives and achievements in the nanotech arena.
