8th Annual General Meeting of the Seedsmen Association in Hyderabad
The 18th Annual General Meeting of the Seedsmen Association is held on 25th September, 2013 at K.L.N. Prasad Auditorium, Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), Hyderabad. While welcoming the V.I.P.s, Dignitaries, Guests, Media both Electronic and Print and the Members of the Association Sri M. Harish Reddy the President of the Association apprised the members about the seasonal conditions prevailing in the State as on 12th September 2013, production and distribution of seeds, Evaluation of Hybrids of Private Companies by ANGRAU and Dr. YSR Horticulture University, interaction with Government, ANGRAU & Dr. YSRHU and challenges before the Seed Industry.

While apprising the season and crop condition, the President has informed the members that the average rainfall recorded during the season from 01-06-2013 to 12-09-2013 is 554.1 m.m.as against the normal 533.2 mm which shows +4% above the normal, but in some of the districts such as Vishakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari received deficit rainfall in this period. And also informed that 76.34% of area has been sown in the State as against the normal area 75.93% as on 12-09-2013. The areas under Maize and Soybean have gone up substantially.

Under seed production, the State has produced 56.32 lakh Qtls. during the year 2012-13. The distribution of the above said quantity is 36.15 lakh Qtls. during Kharif – 2013 and it is expected to distribute 19.59 lakh Qtls. of seed during Rabi 2013-14. Taking the total distribution during the year 2013-14 to 55.74 lakh Qtls. The balance of the seed produced is likely to be distributed outside the state. About the quantity of the Vegetable seed produced in the state is 33,777 Qtls. both Hybrids and OP Varieties.  Further it is stated that during the year 2012-13 the value of major crop seeds marketed in Andhra Pradesh is Rs. 2887 Crores.

On the occasion of the 18th AGM, the Association presented “Seedsmen Annual Awards” to Dr. K. Keshavulu (Scientist Category), Sri Bojja Dasaratha Rami Reddy (Industry Category), Mr. Sardar Ahmed (Seed Dealer and Founder Member of Association) and  Sri Seelam Rajasekhara Reddy (Seed Grower Category).

The President also informed the members about the steps taken to solve the issues faced by the Seed Industry with various departments, Institutions and Research Organisations.  In the end the President thanked the Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Hon’ble Minister of Horticulture, V.I.P.s, Dignitaries and Members of the Association, Media, the authorities of FAPCCI and other Sponsors of the programme to make the AGM a success.
