Nobel Laureate Sir John Bertrand Gurdon to deliver the Distinguished Lecture at Bangalore INDIA BIO 2014

The Department of Information Technology, Bio-Technology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, Vision Group on Biotechnology and MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications today announced that Bangalore INDIA BIO (BIB) 2014 with the core theme ’Biotech for a Better Tomorrow‘ will be held from 10th - 12th February, 2014 at The Lalit Ashok, Bangalore.
The announcement was made today by Shri. S.R.Patil, Hon’ble Minister for IT, BT and S&T, Planning & Statistics, Govt. of Karnataka in the presence of Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson, Karnataka’s Vision Group on Biotechnology & CMD - Biocon Ltd, Mr. Srivatsa Krishna, IAS, Secretary to Government, Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology and Prof. Sharad Chandra, Professor Emeritus Dept. of Microbiology and Cell Biology, IISc, Bangalore and other Industry representatives.

An overview of the activities planned during Bangalore INDIA BIO 2014 Conference & Exhibition

Bangalore INDIA BIO 2014 will consist of Multi-Track Conferences, International Tradeshow, Distinguished Lectures and Talks, InterlinX BioPartnering, CEO Conclave, Bio Excellence Awards, BioQuiz & other networking events.
One of the key highlights this year will be the participation of Nobel laureate Sir John Bertrand Gurdon (awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for the discovery that mature cells can be reprogrammed to become pluripotent) who will deliver the Distinguished Lecture.
Also, World Food Prize Laureate for the year 2013, Em Prof. Marc Van Montagu, Founder and Chairman of the Institute for Plant Biotechnology Outreach (IPBO), Ghent, Belgium will address the gathering.
The conference is expected to have 25 Conference Sessions, about 100 Exhibitors and will see 3000 plus Business visitors. International representation is expected from nearly 15 countries including Scotland, Georgia, Atlanta and Missouri from USA, Alberta from Canada, and Victoria from Australia, Germany, France, UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, and Israel.
Over 100 Young Researchers will present innovations through Poster Sessions. The event will also include the CEO conclave and Bio Excellence Awards Ceremony.
The Conference attracts Speakers of great eminence including Nobel Laureates, Tradeshow sees Exhibits from leading Corporates as well as Small & Medium companies showcasing their Technologies, Products & Services and Biopartnering, a software networking tool that helps delegates of BIB to maximise their time at the event by scheduling meetings before, during and after the event.
The International Conference will deliberate on issues of pressing interest to the Biotech sector including Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine, Biosimilars, Personalised Medicine, Biomedical Devices and Digital Health, BioInformatics for Drug Discovery & Development, Key Issues in Clinical Trials Development and Agri Biotech & Secondary Agriculture – Needs of the Nation. A Round Table discussion on Harmonisation of Global Regulatory Framework with special focus on Asia Pacific has also been planned with regulators from the region to be invited.
CEO Conclave is an exclusive gathering of the biotech community (CEOs, R&D Heads, Policy makers, Venture Capitalists, Investment Bankers, etc.) The highlight of the CEO Conclave will be the Panel Discussion that will bring delegates face to face with Industry & Research Captains who are thriving in a world of Innovation, bringing about Business transformation and harnessing & building Human resources of high calibre.
Bio Excellence Awards will recognize the contribution of Start up & young Biotech companies and Individuals for their outstanding achievements in the field of Biotechnology. Exhibitor Awards for best deigned & Informative Booths and Poster presentation Awards are also presented during the programme.
Biopartnering is a web based platform enabling attendees to conduct one-to-one B2B meetings with other participants thus enhancing partnering opportunities and helping attendees build their collaboration network. Delegates can login into the Partnering system, upload their company profiles & other information that can be viewed by participants to send & receive meetings requests.
BioQuiz, India's largest State Level quiz on Biotechnology is organised by The Department of IT, BT and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka with the objective to create awareness and help students understand Science and Biotechnology and know about the immense potential that the Indian biotech sector holds. It is open to B.Sc, B.Sc-Agri, and B.E - Biotechnology & B.Pharma students from across the Karnataka.
The new initiatives at Bangalore INDIA BIO 2014 will be Workshops & Tutorials which will emphasize interaction and exchange of information among a sharply focused group of participants. They will be conducted by experts in the field who will offer a teaching and training approach in educating the participants about some of the exciting scientific breakthroughs, new and advanced business strategies in Biotechnology to help them achieve their goals.

Background: In the previous edition, there were 22 Sessions with 79 Speakers, and 557 Delegates. 72 Exhibitors from various verticals of Life Sciences Industry like biopharmaceuticals, bio-suppliers, bio-informatics, bio-medical devices participated in the Exhibition and attracted over 2500 plus business visitors. Bangalore INDIA BIO 2013 facilitated 338 B2B meetings through the Bio Partnering tool – InterlinX.
The gathering was attended by delegates from more than 10 countries including Scotland, USA (Georgia), Canada (Alberta) & Australia (Victoria) and Germany, France, UK, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
Two MoUs were signed with KBITS (Govt. of Karnataka), One by Scottish Development International (SDI), an international economic development arm of the Scottish Government and the other by the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Three industry reports released - (a) "Indian Biotechnology: The roadmap to the Next Decade and beyond by ABLE (b) “Opportunities for Fermentation Industry & Biotechnology” by ABLE and (C) Report on “Funding Your Science Idea” of Atharva Life Sciences Consulting.
8 Indian States that participated in the Exhibition included Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
