Leading swimwear brand invites people to get fit and trim for the Christmas Season

Leading swimwear brand invites people to get fit and trim for the Christmas Season
As the country gets ready for year-end celebrations, International swimwear brand, Speedo is inviting people to get '#FitforChristmas' with the launch of a new initiative which promotes swimming as a highly effective way to exercise and get fit faster, when compared to other activities like going to the gym, running, or playing sport. A first for the Indian market, as the only swim-for-fitness campaign run by an international swimwear brand, '#FitforChristmas' comprises of a month-long swimming challenge, for enthusiasts across NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

A 30-day course, it has been designed by fitness experts based on internationally approved techniques and fitness regimes followed by professionals themselves. This challenge will enable swimming enthusiasts to train the way that Michael Phelps and other legends of the pool do.  During the month, the enthusiasts will measure their progress on a daily basis in terms of weight, time and endurance by striving to achieve the stipulated benchmarks set by Speedo India of the said categories.

The four-week 'Get fit for Christmas' Challenge will kick off on November the 25th and culminate on the 24th of December. The challenge will see enthusiasts from NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru weigh themselves in at Speedo outlets across the 6 locations, nationwide or simply send in the relevant information to the Speedo India Facebook page, before they begin their "Swim towards fitness". Following the simple sign-up procedure, the swimming enthusiasts shall get continuous swim-fit tips from the 'Speedo India' page on Facebook and on @SpeedoIndia on Twitter for all competition related updates. Enthusiasts will post their daily progress through Facebook messages on the Speedo India Page and will be judged on the basis of 3 key criteria- Weight loss, Endurance and Time. Weight loss will be judged on the number of Kilos/Grams/Inches lost over the duration of the Challenge; Endurance will be judged on the number of laps a swimmer can swim in a specified time limit; Lastly, Time will be judged on the time taken to complete each lap. Exercises and swimming techniques have been designed for each of these key parameters, by an expert panel of swimmers and fitness professionals, designed to give swimmers the most out of their session in the pool. In the process, Speedo will be giving all the enthusiasts key insights into some of swimming's best kept secrets. The challenge isn't only restricted to the most hardened swimmers, but also those who have always wanted to take to a pool but never had the necessary knowledge to complete the push. The benchmark for each of these criterion will be mentioned at the beginning of each week, followed by daily posts on exercises and challenges for the ensuing week online on the Facebook page. At the end of each week  two swimmers, from each city, who are closest to achieving the said targets  stand a chance to be featured on Speedo India's Hall of Fame, on the Facebook Page, Twitter Handle and  at stores across all locations.

The finalists of the "#FitforChristmas" will undergo a simple fitness test and 3 people would be adjudged "Speedo Swimstars" and will stand the chance to win Speedo goodies.

Continuing on this new initiative, Dominic Vijay, Marketing Head for Speedo India said "We at Speedo look at building and transforming the swim culture in India by inspiring people to swim. This movement is an extension of our efforts. By inspiring people to get '#FitforChristmas' with the aid of internationally designed swim programs, we are confident that this initiative will bring about a positive change in the outlook towards swimming and people will put Swimming on their list of resolutions."

Unlike most other activities, swimming virtually eliminates impact on joints and muscle strain to significantly reduce the chance of injury. As well as helping to improve stamina and muscle tone, swimming is also a great cardiovascular activity and the best choice for an all-over body workout and vastly improved fitness.

Expanding on the initiative, Speedo India Brand Ambassador Nisha Millet stated "A swim-for-fitness campaign such as this is great not only for achieving fitness through the core principles extended by Speedo but more importantly for the Indian swimming community as a whole. Through this campaign Speedo aims to expose even the amateur swimmers access to world class tips on technique improvement and core strength improvement that they wouldn't normally have access to".
