State Bridge Championship is being held from June 6th to 8th at the Place in Bangalore. This tournament is a national ranking open tournament and participants come from all over the country. Bangalore is a very popular venue of the Bridge playing community.
The City League Bridge Championships are being held for the 3rd year in a row and has evinced keen interest. There are 18 teams participating from Bangalore and 5 teams from Mysore. This year the format is with Handicaps. The quarter, semi and finals are scheduled to be held at the Mysore Golf Club on May 17 and 18. The 4 top teams are likely to take part in the National League Champioships at Pune on June 29/30.
Karnataka State Bridge Association(KSBA), an autonomous body affiliated with Bridge Federation of India completed its 50 years in 2013, has been very tirelessly and actively promoting the game of Bridge by conducting State and National Level Tournaments.
Bridge is now recognized the best mind sport ahead of Chess and others. KSBA has taken up a very committed initiative of popularizing Bridge as a mind sport at educational institutes (Schools in Europe, and USA have included bridge in their curriculum) clubs and Corporate sector. We are proud to state that our Bridge Training initiative has been well received in educational Institutes. A number of senior executives from Government, Corporate sectors and Banks are participating in the games and also in our Bridge workshops. We are having Training programs regularly in Schools and Clubs.
There are regular games being held at Catholic Club(Tuesdays), Bowring Institute(Thursdays), Koramangala Indoor Stadium(Saturdays), Canara Union(Saturdays). Regular Tournaments are held at Malleswaram Association, Century Club, Bangalore Club etc. Bridge is getting more and more poular and efforts are being made to promote the game in Mysore, Belgaum, Coorg, Mangalore and other places.
