About Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi: Dr. Gandhi is best described as a doctor with a great heart for humanity. He is a crusader who had been associated with various public service institutions right from his college days. His love for his motherland and pain at current state of affairs is amply reflected in the poems he recites at many occasions.
• Studied at Medical College, Amritsar (1971-76), where as a student Union Activist and leader, was detained during emergency in 1975.
• Elected as Gen. Secy of Junior Doctors’ Association Punjab for year 1977-78
• Organized Association for Democratic Rights, Punjab (AFDR) in 1978 and was elected as its Founder Gen.Secy, with Prof. Jagmohan Singh (Nephew of shaheed Bhagat Singh as president) stayed as Gen.sey of this organization and member of “All India Federation of organization for Democratic rights” (AIFOFDR) from state of Punjab from 1978-1982.
• Left Govt. job on long leave and worked in slums of migratory workers of UP, Bihar and Odissa, in industrial city of Ludhiana, and organized them, made them conscious of their rights and provided them much needed medical help,(from March 82 to oct 84 a period of more than 2 years).
• Built a model rural medical centre, in village Bilaspur with public participation – a centre which was awarded, Best Rural Health centre status, by then Governor Punjab, S.S. Ray and appreciated by print media, right from Punjab to Deccan Heard and economic and political weekly, Mumbai (Coverage attached) (1978-1988).
• Worked as Asstt. Professor, cardiology at Govt. Medical College Patiala and awarded many citations for dedicated services (1991-2001).
• Organized and worked as president of NGO “National Voluntary Group” in Patiala from (1990-2008).
• Left medical college Patiala in year 2001 and running a low-cost ‘Medical Social Project’ in Patiala City (from 2001-20014). The work model and approach behind this project can and must please be seen from the pamphlet attached. More than 1000 people voted for the finalization of this approach.
• Joined ‘Jan Lokpal Andolan’ and participated in this Andolan as Chairman of Anna Hazara Sangharash Committee. Later supported Arvind’s fast and sat on Dharna in Patiala.
• Participated in Delhi Elections, by raising more than 1 lakh fund and canvassing for AAP in Model Town area, along with a team of 8 doctors from Pujab on, Nov 24,2014, Participated in Arvind ji Road show, at Mehrauli & Chattarpur area.
