#BJP Tamilnadu raises funds for #J&K floods using mobile Point-of-Sale (mPOS) devices

In the interest of getting swifter relief and to render immediate assistance to families of those affected in natural calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquakes, the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu is now using Mobile Point-of-Sale (mPOS) devices across the state to collect contributions. The BJP in Tamil Nadu has partnered with Bijlipay -an innovative payment solutions company in its fund-raising effort by putting hundreds of mPOS devices in the hands of its volunteers across the state. Each volunteer, armed with a smartphone will collect card-based contributions from the general public and send them a digital receipt recording their contribution and the mPOS way acts as a transparent, easier and instant alternative to cash payments.
Taking a leaf from the Prime Minister’s technology-led approach, the BJP TN team decided to change fund raising methods and to allow technology to be the driver. Bijlipay, a leading mPOS player was contacted and asked to deliver a first batch of 100 devices in less than 2 days. Taking up the challenge and sensing the urgency for the Jammu and Kashmir flood relief programme, Bijlipay lived up to the test and delivered a first in the country, by deploying 100 devices for the Jammu and Kashmir relief efforts. This new initiative was conceived by the BJP TN to allow their volunteers to collect funds instantly, anywhere and at any time.
“The estimated losses are in thousands of crores and we cannot possibly collect significant contributions in small notes. With increasing smartphone phone usage across the county and the use of debit/credit cards growing, this method enables us to collect large amounts from citizens who look for a transparent and cashless way of making contributions,” said Mr. Pavan Kachibhatla, CEO of Bijlipay.
