Bangalore's Varthur lake, considered one of the biggest water bodies in the city, has been filled with a pile of froth after recent rains mixed with untreated sewage were let out into it.
After froth early Saturday a fire broke out as yellowish flames emerged near the Yemlur side of the Bellandur lake, one of the city’s largest water bodies. In one area, methane gas had started to accumulate within the froth. Methane is a highly combustible gas, and it must have caught fire, said an expert. Until BWSSB completes construction of two Sewage Treatment Plants along the lake situation may remain the same.
Not Varthur Lake. This is Bellandur Lake! Same; pollution led foaming. Bangalore paying the price for 'development'. pic.twitter.com/ni4g3uqbfO
