#IIMB ready to dish out free management course for masses

More than 200,000 students across the globe have enrolled for Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered by IIM Bangalore till 30th April 2016.More than 35% of these enrollments are from India alone.IIM Bangalore is India’s first management school to join the Massachusetts-based non-profit enterprise edX as a contributing member to offer MOOCs.

edX, created by founding partners Harvard University and MIT, offers interactive online classes from the world’s best universities. IIMB will soon offer these courses to 73 government degree colleges in the Indian state of Karnataka.

MOOCs or Massive Open Online Courses is fast becoming a buzzword in academia as it offers unprecedented access to ‘top courses from top universities’ for students who could not previously avail of a world-class education either because of their economic backgrounds or physical location. It is predicted that by 2020 at least a dozen universities around the world will give university degrees with 100% content on MOOCs.
IIMB has started offering these MOOCs since July last year and has received huge enrollments for courses like Statistics for Business, Introduction to Managerial Economics, Introduction to Operations Management, Predictive Analysis, Innovation and IT Management etc. IIMB will soon offer these courses in vernacular languages.

These innovative technology-based educational programme like MOOCs gels well with Prime Minister Modi's vision of providing skill education to more than 6 million youth of the nation as well.
