Tesco HSC, the global service arm for Tesco plc, the world’s third largest retailer, celebrated International Women's Day today to mark the achievement of women in different spheres of life. As part of the celebrations, chocolate stalls were set up in the campus, wherein employees were encouraged to gift chocolates to all the special women in their lives. The proceeds of the sale will be donated towards charity.
A two day long campaign on women's health was launched to celebrate the occasion, by inviting medical professionals from reputed hospitals to come and deliver a talk on health issues arising in urban women and care to be taken in this regard.
Sandeep Dhar, CEO, Tesco HSC said that the occasion "is being celebrated to recognize a woman’s commitment, dedication and achievements and celebrate diversity by saluting the women in our lives – who play a multitude of roles be it as a colleague, wife, mother, daughter, sister or a friend”
Chief Guest Mythily Ramesh, Co-Founder and CEO, Next Wealth, a Social Entrepreneurship Organisation, spoke about her journey so far which encompassed overcoming several adversities and hurdles that came her way. In a career spanning more than two decades in Information Technology, Mythily has juggled several roles such as Business Development, Quality, Innovation and Marketing across both IT and ITES businesses. Recipient of the "Indira Super Achiever" award, Ms. Ramesh believes that "your work proves your worth" and that gender orientation ceases to be a differentiator in the long run.
This was followed by a talk from Tara Kuruvilla, a professional counselor, who spoke about perfecting the “balancing act” and finally one of the women manager’s, Ray Simon, Senior Manager - HR, spoke to the audience and told them about her experiences and the choices that she makes which gives her both personal and professional satisfaction.
Meanwhile, women constitute 34% of the total workforce of the company and the organisation has taken up several initiatives on inclusion and diversity of manpower.
