Apeejay Surrendra Group organized an engaging and captivating interactive session on The Future of volunteering - Be the change you want to see, which included eminent personalities from Bangalore, followed by the announcement of Apeejay India Volunteer Awards 2011 (AIVA), in association with i-Volunteer and International Business Leaders Forum, UK (IBLF). AIVA is the first-of-its-kind national recognition focused on rewarding volunteering and volunteer engaging corporate and NGOs. The awards hold a special significance in its commencement this year since the United Nations is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteering globally
The panel comprised Dr. Meena K Jain, Chairperson for Child Welfare Committee Govt. of Karnataka, Vishal Talreja, Co-founder and Executive Director of Dream A Dream, Vijay Ladha, Program Director of Make A Wish Foundation of India, Prarthana Unkalkar Kaul, Head - East and South iVolunteer along with Renu Kakkar - Vice President, Corporate Communications, Apeejay Surrendra Group. Harish Bijoor serves as Chief Operating Officer of Zip Telecom Ltd. Mr. Bijoor served for eight years of his career in sales and distribution and brand management with Hindustan Lever Limited, and eight years with Tata Coffee Limited in their brand management, Mr. Bijoor moved over to Zip Telecom Limited. He has joined Zip from Tata Tea/Tata Coffee, where he served as Vice President in charge of marketing and sales. His responsibilities at Zip include the Payphone business. Harish Bijoor is a prolific blend of an entrepreneur, author, quizzer and brand manager, all combined in one.
AIVA aims to identify champions in volunteering in India, recognize volunteers and organizations engaged in volunteering, raise awareness, celebrate and promote this much needed effort and drive volunteering as a mainstream interest in Indians. The platform gains significance for the citizens of this nation, when India needs to look upto role models with a deep sense of responsibility to face several social issues hampering the growth of our country.

The Awards will be given to Individuals, Corporates and NGOs Volunteer of the Year with a sub category namely Youth Volunteer of the Year for an Individual below 25 years of age; Employee volunteering program of the year to a Corporate and Volunteer involving NGO of the year. The awards competition will be held regionally in four zones of India, including Kolkata with shortlisted candidates being eligible for the national round of selections. The grand finale will be held in New Delhi on August 2011, judged by a prominent National Jury
