Anchor Electricals (a Panasonic group Company) strengthens manufacturing base in India with a new environment friendly factory in Daman

Anchor Electricals, a wholly owned subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation, today announced the commencing of operations at its new manufacturing unit at Daman, India. This new manufacturing unit has been set up with an investment of INR 200 crores and will produce, with an immediate effect, a complete range of Wiring Devices that cater to the volume and niche markets. The company plans that for the first two years, the products manufactured at Daman will cater to the domestic market, post which exports to Middle East will commence.


The recently constructed manufacturing unit, with an annual production capacity of 240 million units currently, is expected to double the installed capacity by FY 2013. Contributing in CO2 reduction, this environment friendly facility furthers Panasonic’s leadership in green innovations and has adopted many green features including installation of LED lighting, Solar panels and use of treated sewage water. The facility also aims at improving the working atmosphere for the employees through provision of welfare facilities to the 1500 people that the factory will employ once it reaches full capacity in FY 2013.

He further added, “Currently, Anchor contributes significantly towards our annual turnover and we are very hopeful to drive increment in market share in the coming years for this segment. Going forward, Anchor will play a significant role for Panasonic in offering solutions in the Indian market.”

This new manufacturing unit in Daman is an important part of our business strategy in India and we are aiming at an integrated manufacturing function- from raw material to finished goods, which will enable us supply faster and expand our capacity for growth. With this new factory, we will continue to offer our consumers higher value for money, easy availability, supportive post-sales service and contemporary and technically superior electrical products aimed at customer comfort and energy savings.

The manufacturing unit, which is spread over 27,700 m2, will be Anchor’s first Greenfield factory after the Panasonic acquisition in 2007. Panasonic aims to be the world’s No 1 Green Innovation Company in the electronics industry by 2018 and the company is moving towards this direction. The new factory has installed LED lighting and has used Natural light in canteen and other areas in an effort to reduce electricity consumption. Also, Solar panels have been installed to power some of the employee welfare areas and Water treated in the sewage treatment plant is used for gardening in order to reduce CO2 emissions, waste generation and promote eco consciousness.
