The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), India's most preferred and largest B-school is conducting India’s biggest inter-school contest - GET REAL! , between 18th July 2012 & 19th July 2012 with prizes of over Rs. 200000. The theme of the event is getting Generation Y to rekindle their connect with the ‘real’ world and facilitate Gen Y to use internet sensibly. Students across Bangalore can walk in between 9.30 am & 6.00 pm.
‘Newsweek’, conducted a survey to find out whether our need for connection in this Internet age is actually driving us insane. While the findings may be a bit alarmist, the reality is that increasingly today the virtual world is dominating the lives of Generation Y, often at the cost of the real one.
Against this backdrop, India’s largest B School,’s IIPM, is conducting a collage making competition with the theme ‘Get Real’ across 1500 schools in the country. The objective of the campaign is to talk to students about the potential downsides of the over use of technology and too much attachment to social networking and similar activities while also discussing ways and means of leveraging them effectively.
“The internet is a very powerful medium. Students need to understand how to use it more effectively and productively. Rather than lecturing them on the issues, we figured that a collage making contest would get the message across more easily. At this stage we are proud to say that it is working.” says Ashwin Suresh, Head of Corporate Relations at IIPM Bangalore.
The competition will be held in various schools across Bangalore like Cathedrals, Vagdevi, St. Francis Junior College and Legacy School. The participants will be briefed about the theme and the issue before the collage making commences on their campus. The initiative is a part of a mega annual event – Cicero’s Carnival being held by IIPM across to country to provide a showcase of school talent across events such as debate, creative writing, mad ads, antakshari, dance and of course the grand final of the collage competition.
This multifaceted event comprises of debate, creative writing, sports quiz, street play, Mr & Ms.Cicero, treasure hunt and many more. The two day long event is supported by sponsors such as postmygreetings.com, Woodland, Snap Fitness and Costa Coffee. The mega event is set to be up for grabs apart from an iPod & nano for the best designed greeting card.
