SEMI India, the global industry association serving the nano and microelectronics manufacturing supply chains, is hosting the fourth edition of SOLARCON India 2012, India’s largest solar-focused technology and business event, from September 3-5, 2012 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). For the first time SOLARCON India 2012 is organized in Bangalore, by SEMI India in association with the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka and Karnataka Udyog Mitra (KUM) and Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL). Karnataka's proactive renewable energy agency KREDL, has set a target of installing 200 MW of solar projects by 2016 and plans to set up a 1000 hectare solar park on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by 2013, which is estimated to attract investments close to US$ 1 billion and open up enormous business opportunities for all the stakeholders in the solar industry.
"India has a great role to play in solar manufacturing as manufacturing becomes the backbone of the country's growing economy and an engine for job creation. New investments are required to scale with efficient cost effective technologies to face the global competition head on and grab significant share of local and a piece of global business opportunity. GOI needs to urgently step in with incentives to facilitate level playing field for investors to spur investments", said Mr. K. Subramanya, Former CEO, Tata BP Solar and Chairman, PV advisory committee, SEMI India.
Debasish Paul Choudhury, president, SEMI India, adds, “According to the Central Statistical Office’s ‘Energy Statistics 2012’ report, India’s renewable energy generation potential is roughly 89,760 MW, of which Gujarat accounts for 14 percent followed by Karnataka with 12 percent (11,071 MW). We are delighted to be co-hosting SOLARCON 2012 with KUM, KREDL and Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka. Also, we are backing the KREDL initiative by bringing the best professionals from the industry, government, academia and financiers to discuss key implementation aspects and challenges ahead for both On-Grid and Off-Grid Solar to enhance the growth of the next solar hub of India – Karnataka."
SOLARCON India 2012 provides a high-profile platform for the Government of Karnataka and other eco-system partners to discuss and evolve strategies to facilitate the growth of the local solar industry. In addition, SOLARCON India 2012 will feature a short skill development course on “Thin Film PV Technology — Cells to Systems,” in technical collaboration with the NCPRE (National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education) based at IIT- Bombay during the event.
