Arvind Kejriwal and other activists of India against Corruption have decided not to leave the makeshift jail at Bawana until Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid is removed from his post for financial irregularities in his trust.
Earlier, Kejriwal along with his associates Gopal Rai, Manish Sisodia and hundreds of activists of IAC were arrested by the police when they were leading a procession in central Delhi along with physically challenged persons, demonstrating against the embezzlement of funds by NGO run by Khurshid and his wife.
"The law minister has insulted the high office he is supposed to uphold," Kejriwal said, adding "Both the minister and his wife are influential people and they can tamper with evidence."
The protesters were detained and taken to various police stations. While Gopal Rai was taken to the Parliament Street police station along with some supporters, Kejriwal and Sisodia were taken to the makeshift jail at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Bawana. Later, Rai was moved to Bawana, too.
Women activists were manhandled by the police and other activists were beaten up, some of them badly.
India against Corruption joined the march by Rashtriya Vikalang Party to the prime minister’s 7 Race Course residence to press for their demands. "It is a shame that the government is using force to muzzle the voice of disabled people rather than listening to them and taking decisive action to uphold the law," Kejriwal remarked.
The flagbearers of the movement have called upon everybody supporting and/or sympathising with the cause to come forward and join the satyagraha for immediate suspension of duties of Salman Khurshid as the union law minister, pending an institutional inquiry into the matter.
