A recently concluded research study by GFK Mode titled, “Dus se Kam Report” confirms that Tata Sky daily subscription cost across the country is lower or equivalent to the cost of essential food items that are a part of one’s daily meal.
The study spanning across Tier I & II markets was conceptualized by Tata Sky in alliance with GFK Mode to understand consumer/s daily expenses and how would that compare to the daily subscription cost of Tata Sky.
As part of the study, prices of 31 items were recorded across 18 major cities from the retail outlets selling or catering to a mix of consumers belonging to SEC A/B/C homes.
Some interesting highlights from the study:
· Cost of onion (per kg) is highest in Ahmedabad (Rs. 30) and lowest in Pimpri (Rs. 19)
· Cost of samosa (per piece) is highest in Mysore (18) and lowest in Kanpur (Rs. 4)
· Pani puri costs highest in Delhi (Rs. 28) & Lucknow (Rs. 27) and lowest in Hyderabad (Rs. 9) & Ahmedabad (Rs. 9)
· Cost of idli is highest in Delhi (Rs. 47) and comparatively lower in South (avg. Rs. 15)
· A cup of daily Chai costs highest in Thane (Rs. 18) and Nagpur (Rs. 18), and lowest in Kanpur (Rs. 5)
· Chhole bhature costs highest in Mumbai (Rs. 91) and lowest in Vizag (Rs. 15)
· The cheapest place to dig into a Thali is Mysore/Hyderabad as against a Jaipur, Delhi & Faridabad
· Bhindi (okra)in Faridabad is priced almost 3 times of what it costs in Vizag
· Surat definitely is the city for those who love mutton, chicken or eggs with the prices of meat and eggs being the lowest here than anywhere else in the country
· Surat also is significantly lower in price of non-veg food as compared to Baroda or Ahmedabad
· While most veggies are most reasonably priced in Vizag as against anywhere in the country, mutton is astronomically higher here than anywhere else in the country
· "Milk is priced lowest in Mysore, yet Paneer is one of the highest priced
· Hyderabad is one of the markets where milk is relatively lower than the average price of the cities survey. Yet Paneer is the second highest priced amongst the markets studied
· Moong, Arhar/ Tuvar and Chana dal are priced lower in Mumbai than the satellite towns of Thane and Navi Mumbai
“While it is known that the prices of food items vary from location to location, the range of variation for some commonly consumed items like cabbage, green chillies, milk/ paneer was a surprise. On the other hand sugar, potato & onion had most similar prices across the 18 locations. Interestingly there were several items that an individual consumes on a daily basis that cost more than Rs. 10. Today even tea/coffee at an average outlet costs more and is bound to only increase given the inflation rate in the country.” said Mr. Vishikh Talwar, Member – Management Board, GFK Mode
