With the theme highlighting the ‘Globalise, Innovate, Collaborate’, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) will commence the third edition of the annual GIC Conclave to be held on April 5, 2013, at the Leela Palace, Bengaluru.

The day-long conclave has been designed to provide a rich blend of research-based analysis of the strategic opportunities, challenges and business models that are driving a shift in the GIC sector. The conclave will also see global leaders deliberate on seven hand-picked thought-provoking topics concerning the GIC community - Changing landscape | Evolving with the maturity curve | Why innovation must become hygiene | Having a value matrix | Cost effective location strategies | Getting, keeping & maintaining talent | Socially Responsible business.

Mr. Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM, said, “The GIC Conclave provides a platform to leverage the collective intellectual capabilities built by the GIC sector to make India an Innovation and R&D hub.  Operational excellence, value addition, centers of expertise, capability development and leadership are key focus areas for the GIC sector and will be discussed extensively at the GIC Conclave”.

Over the past few years, GICs in India have emerged as a mainstay of the IT growth strategies in India. It is estimated that India has a 35 percent share of the total GICs present in the world. What started as a center to do operational work at lower costs, has now transformed into Centers of Excellence. From developing innovation hubs by creating IP to developing a nursery for global leadership from India and contributing to development global products from India, GICs have developed a strong ecosystem in the country. GICs today have managed to deploy new and innovative services that make business processes more efficient and are aligned with attaining strategic business objectives. NASSCOM estimates that Global In-house Centers (GICs) in India today contribute over 1 percent of the incremental GDP for the country in addition to enhancing the overall IT and process capabilities for the sector. These centers employ over 400,000 people, and today accounts for 22 percent of the total export revenues in India.

Mr. Shakti Sagar, National Chair, NASSCOM GIC Forum, said “As GICs, while we are focused on being the business transformation partner for our principals, it is also imperative for us to focus on sustainable social transformation. We are well aware that the world today is facing unique and daunting social challenges. And hence we understand that social transformation needs to be at the heart of corporate strategy. At the GIC conclave, we have an agenda which addresses both these dimensions - business transformation partnership and sustainable social transformation.”

Mr. Sandeep Kejriwal, Bangalore Chair, NASSCOM GIC Forum, said: “Our charter is to ‘raise the bar’ for the broader GIC fraternity through a framework of best practice sharing, collaboration, and co-innovation. The Bangalore GIC Chapter is hosting this 1-day Conclave with a wide spectrum of strategic topics, along with CXO Roundtables for Technology, HR and Finance domains. We have pushed the bar for ourselves by including thought-provoking sessions on Patents & Intellectual Property, Cloud & Big Data, and Social Transformation. With the top-notch line of speakers from India and abroad, the event indeed holds a promise for our journey ahead’.

To further strengthen this sector, NASSCOM has created a separate forum for the GICs in India to discuss, debate, collaborate and find solutions to enable strategic directions for this sector. Some of the strategic areas focused by the GIC forum of NASSCOM includes:

·         How GICs in India can continue to create Value beyond costs for their Global Corporation in the areas such as developing innovation hubs and enabling global products from India
·         Continue to deliver the domain centric talent pool and development of Global Leadership from  India
·         Facilitating collaboration framework and building an Eco system for sustained growth of GICs
