Oxford Bookstore introduces new book ‘TATAlog’
Oxford Bookstore in association with Penguin Books India today hosted a special meet and greet session to celebrate the success of Harish Bhat’s debut book ‘TATAlog’. Harish Bhat is the Managing Director and CEO of Tata Global Beverages Ltd; he is also an extensive writer and a columnist. Having held many roles in the Tata Group over the past twenty-five years he brings to his readers ‘TATAlog, a book on eight riveting and hitherto untold stories on the Tata Group’s success, achievements and tribulations over the years. Present for the occasion was special guest Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation and a member of public health care initiatives of the Gates Foundation, who was in conversation with the author.

The evening culminated with the author engaging in a dynamic conversation with the guest and the audience, giving the readers an inside view of the magnanimous Tata Group and its operating ethos, visions, dreams, challenges and failures from the last two decades.

‘TATAlog’ chronicles the incredible journey of the Tata Group since India’s economic liberalisation. This is an attempt to capture the spirit of the Tata’s through significant episodes over the years. The eight episodic stories beginning with the story of the making of India’s first indigenously designed car, the group’s diversification into the successful jewellery brand, to the several tribulations faced, brings together the tale of how the company evolved into the timeless institution.  The book brings to the public purview the saga that reflects the group’s character of owning up ‘imperfection’ alongside its transcendence even though it is a rare occurrence.

About the book:

From steel to beverages and from supercomputers to automobiles, TATA companies have broken new ground and set new standards of excellence over the past two decades. TATAlog presents eight riveting and hitherto untold stories about the strategic and operational challenges that TATA companies have faced, and the forward thinking and determination that have raised the brand to new heights.

Among the engaging and inspiring stories told are those of Tata Indica, the first completely Indian car that succeeded in the face of widespread cynicism; the jewellery brand Tanishq that has transformed one of India’s largest industries; and Tata Finance, which underwent several tribulations yet demonstrated the principles which Tata stands for.

Written by a TATA insider, TATAlog reveals the DNA of every TATA enterprise—a combination of the virtues of being pioneering, purposive, principled and ‘not perfect’, along with tremendous human effort.
