Canadian International School students come forward for a cause
The students of Canadian International School, Bangalore initiated a project "Brush of Kindness” in association with an NGO called “Habitat for Humanity". Students painted houses for families who earn less than Rs.300/-a day as daily labourers, vegetable vendors and BBMP workers etc. The students also donated Rs.50, 000 towards this project. This money was raised by the students during another fund raiser "Walkathon” from the CIS Community. The money was spent in painting houses and also for the sand needed to construct houses in a village called Kottur near Ramamurthy Nagar, Bangalore.

Habitat for Humanity India is a non-profit organization that builds homes and provides housing-related services to low-income, marginalized families across India.

Community initiative is an integral part at CIS. This is one of the projects undertaken by students as part of the CAS program at CIS. Through the CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) programme, all students at CIS are given opportunities to develop awareness of different communities and their needs.

The enthusiasm and perseverance showed by our students towards this project needs to be applauded for. Not once did the students complain about the physical labor that they were subjected to. The smile on their faces at the end of the day when they saw the houses with bright paints is something that cannot be forgotten. - Priya Anand, Community Service Coordinator

It was an amazing experience with habitat for humanity. It is good that we do this once in while, to experience what these people living in slums go through. It was a wonderful opportunity to help these people and build their homes - Rhea Reddy, Grade IB1

The living standards of the people that live in those houses was quite shocking. The houses had no windows or any ventilation. It was quite depressing to be honest. This is why i was glad that I could do my little bit for the needy. I even realized how hard manual labour can get. I'm happy that I do this ever so often - Anirudh Nambiar, Grade IB1

It was heart touching to see the living conditions of the families, however at the end of the day but we could see the smile on their faces at the end of the painting - Anil Kumar, Mathematics Teacher

I was so impressed by community service activity done by the IB1 students. They did a wonderful job painting the houses in the slums of Kottur and brought colours in their lives by the fresh coat of paint - Vishwas Kulkarni, Hindi Teacher.
